Bette Midler's latest hideous tweet brings a quick mea culpa after backlash from all sides

Democrats are still dealing with the bombshell announcement Joe Manchin made on FNC’s Fox News Sunday that he will not vote for the Build Back Better bill. As though his own fellow Democrats in Washington were not jumping ugly enough against him, some Hollywood elites decided to weigh in. What could go wrong?

In the case of Bette Midler’s tweet voicing her disgust with Senator Manchin, it went horribly wrong. Midler’s not known for an abundance of class, to begin with. When she goes on social media, she indulges her very worst impulses. Sure, she gets attention from her fellow far-left travelers, but she often finds herself in hot water. Yet, she persists. Let’s look at her most recent controversial tweet.

As you can see, Midler doesn’t think too much of the people of West Virginia. Her elitism is way over the top here. She didn’t just leave it as criticism of Manchin’s decision, she had to trash the state’s population as just not good enough for her. “He wants us all to be just like his state, West Virginia. Poor, illiterate and strung out.” Wow. The 76-year-old diva may be feeling extra special these days after recently being awarded a Kennedy Center Honor this month. I mean, after a visit to the White House with Joe and Jill, Midler said the Oval Office “is a little small.” Biden is “divine” and Jill is “truly, truly divine” so clearly the actress needs a little help in describing people. She did say the Rose Garden was nice and that people shouldn’t have “jumped on Melania” as they did, referencing the renovation the former first lady oversaw. She half-jokingly said she’s beyond cool now after receiving the honor – she’s “in the stratosphere.”

So, since not all of America lives in Beverly Hills or on Fifth Avenue in Manhattan or other fabulously wealthy areas, people on social media didn’t take her angry tweet well. She received pushback from both sides of the aisle.

A Democrat state representative in Pennsylvania said Midler’s “I’m smarter than you” attitude never helps in response.

Many responders said Midler should familiarize herself with how our government works. Joe Manchin boldly did his job. He was elected by the voters in West Virginia who know him well after many years in elected office, including the governor of the state. He answers to them, not anyone else. He’s a politician who knows he’s the only Democrat elected statewide in the state and West Virginia went for Trump in a big way in 2020, by 40%.

When people tell you who they are, believe them. Midler and others in the entertainment industry live as special people. They believe they are special and the people who buy tickets to their performances and their music and books are not. Midler believes stereotypes.

A Twitter user who identified herself as Jane Donovan wrote: ‘Bette, that’s not fair. West Virginia is full of good people who work hard and take care of each other.

‘Dealing in stereotypes doesn’t help.’

Another angry Twitter user wrote: ‘I have lived in WV my entire life. I have two college degrees and a well-paying job.

Manchin knows to whom he answers.

“I have always said, ‘If I can’t go back home and explain it, I can’t vote for it,'” the West Virginia Democrat said in a statement following the interview. “Despite my best efforts, I cannot explain the sweeping Build Back Better Act in West Virginia and I cannot vote to move forward on this mammoth piece of legislation.”

There is poverty in West Virginia but that can be said of any state. One of the reasons that Trump won so big in West Virginia was because of his strong support for the coal industry. Democrats like Joe Biden, Barack Obama, and Hillary Clinton ran on campaign promises of ending coal mining. The policies of Joe Biden have accelerated and grown inflation that hurts lower and middle-class Americans the most. The BBB bill is a massive social spending bill that will continue to increase inflation.

So, Midler apologized to the people of West Virginia. Or, did she?

Is that an apology? She was angry, she says, as though that is justification for her ugliness. She accuses the Manchin family of a “criminal enterprise”, which is interesting since she’s a Biden supporter. Where’s Hunter? Midler asks if Manchin is the best they can do, too. She’s a New Yorker, the state that gave us Chuck Schumer, AOC, and Bill de Blasio. Who’s she to question voters in any state?

Not to be outdone, Henry Winkler jumped into the fray with his own tweet. He suggests The Lincoln Project make a commercial showing West Virginians what they aren’t getting now, thanks to Manchin. Progressives and other liberals think the government should be in control of your lives from cradle to grave. Who pays for all the social spending programs, Henry? American taxpayers, the hardest hit are middle class, especially during times of high inflation.

The Lincoln Project is dependent on Democrats for their livelihoods now that their jobs in Republican politics dried up. They now are determined to keep Democrats in control. Winkler seems to be a supporter.

This conservative woman sums it up nicely:

I don’t think the people of West Virginia are waiting to take advice from the likes of Bette Midler or Henry Winkler.
