Former President Trump has moved back to Florida and opened the Office of the Former President. Mike Pence is now following in like manner and has opened his Office of the Former Vice-President. These two men found a perfect way to publicly troll Joe Biden over his Office of the President-Elect designation during the presidential transition. These are made-up titles, just as Biden’s was, and it’s amusing.

There was no more loyal soldier to President Trump than Mike Pence as his vice-president. He knew his place and his job, which was to publicly agree with President Trump and execute his orders behind the scenes. He had a relationship with Congressional Republicans that Trump did not, given his years spent in the House of Representatives. He was deployed to Capitol Hill when he was needed to schmooze those not on board with whatever legislation Trump was looking to put into place. So, capitalizing on his past experience on Capitol Hill and as a former governor, he opened an office in Arlington, Virginia. His transition from the White House to a regular, though privileged, life is underway.

“Pence announced Wednesday that the Office of the Former Vice President will handle correspondence, scheduling requests, public statements and official activities for him and his wife, Karen,” the Associated Press reported. “The office is located in Arlington, across the Potomac River from Washington.”

Pence previously lived in Arlington, most recently in the East Falls Church neighborhood, and his daughters attended Yorktown High School. Pence sold the home on 28th Street N. for $725,000 in 2012. Before that public records suggest that Pence, during his time in Congress, lived in homes along Military Road and in the Arlington Ridge neighborhood.

As far as I know, he didn’t go to Disney World to celebrate entry back into more normal life but he is joining the Heritage Foundation as a distinguished visiting fellow. Pence will also deliver a series of speeches and write a monthly column for The Daily Signal, the Heritage Foundation’s news outlet. Heritage President Kay C. James released an announcement yesterday. Pence credits the Heritage Foundation with shaping his conservative philosophy through the years. He will advise on public policy issues.

“Over the course of the past four years, our team at Heritage has worked closely with members of the Trump administration on a host of policy accomplishments,” said Heritage President Kay C. James. “That’s why I am excited Vice President Mike Pence will join forces with Heritage to ensure we continue to advance conservative principles and policy solutions. His allegiance to the Constitution and commitment to advancing a conservative policy agenda make him an outstanding fit for The Heritage Foundation.”

James thanked Pence for his public service and commended his courage, resolve, and faithfulness to our country.

“Mike Pence served with honor and excellence in his home state of Indiana as a congressman and as governor before becoming one of the most consequential vice presidents of our time,” James said. “A man of faith, principle, and character, Vice President Pence is a heroic protector and defender of the Constitution and the values that unite us as a nation.

“I am overjoyed that Heritage will continue to work alongside Vice President Pence as we have for the last 30 years. As much as we’ve accomplished in that time, especially over the last four years, there is so much more to be done. Knowing that Vice President Pence is still in the fight is an adrenaline shot for the entire conservative movement.”

Today a partnership with Young America’s Foundation (YAF) and Pence was announced, teaming up for a podcast. Pence will serve as the YAF’s Ronald Reagan Presidential Scholar. He will work with the organization’s campus lecture program, speaking with students at colleges and universities across the country. The podcast will give Pence a platform to “share the good news of conservatism.” The podcast is being described as a video podcast and it will be available on YAF’s YouTube channel as well as other digital platforms.

“Throughout its 60-year history, Young America’s Foundation has been a bulwark of the Conservative Movement, advancing the cause of freedom and ensuring our future leaders embrace America’s founding principles and I am honored to join YAF as the Ronald Reagan Presidential Scholar,” Pence said in a statement. “Long before I became Vice President to President Donald Trump, the vision and leadership of Ronald Reagan inspired my youth and I am humbled to continue the work of advancing the Conservative cause from a position bearing his name.”

He added: “Now more than ever, we need to take the case for freedom, free markets, and traditional values to the rising generation and I look forward to working with the great YAF team to ensure the torch of freedom shines bright for generations to come.”

The decisions Pence is making about the opportunities he takes now point to the 2024 elections. Whether he wants to be a power player in recruiting conservatives to run for offices or fundraise for incumbents or if he’s looking at a presidential run for himself is not clear yet. I’m not so sure he’ll run for president. I don’t think he’d win a presidential election but who knows what will happen during the next four years. With these new roles, he’ll be able to remain in the public eye if he wants to do so, and he’ll get the support of the Heritage Foundation behind whatever it is he decides to do during the 2024 election cycle. That’s still a vital nod for any conservative candidate to receive.
