At least I think it was unintentional. Sometimes it’s hard to tell which are the serious reactions from our moral and intellectual betters in Hollywood and which are jokes. As I scanned headlines and tweets this morning, I spotted a call for a sex strike from actress/activist Alyssa Milano. Her motivation was the heartbeat bill signed into law Tuesday by Georgia Governor Brian Kemp.

Georgia is the sixth state to pass such a bill, following Ohio, Mississippi, Kentucky, Iowa, and North Dakota. The bill has the abortion-on-demand crowd in a tizzy. Georgia’s law will go into effect in January. The bill bans abortion after the sixth week of pregnancy, the time when a fetal heartbeat can be heard.

Alyssa Milano led an effort to get other entertainment business people to sign on to boycott filming and working in Georgia, a popular destination for Hollywood movie and television production companies. Back in March, as the Georgia legislature considered the bill, she took to social media to publicize a letter written to the Georgia House Speaker and Governor Kemp. Dozens of other celebrities signed on to the letter.

Hollywood movers and shakers fell in line and production companies began to announce that doing business with the State of Georgia would come to a halt. With that success, she persisted. Friday she called for a sex strike. The woke feminist went all the way back to ancient Greek literature as her guide to responding to elected officials outlawing abortion after the sixth week of pregnancy. Some supporters even used the hashtag for it – #Lysistrata2019. You can’t make this stuff up.

The idea is far from new. In ancient Greece, the playwright Aristophanes wrote “Lysistrata,” in which the title character persuades other women to deny their husbands of sex until they end a war. More recently, director Spike Lee’s 2015 film, “Chi-Raq,” transferred the same idea to modern-day Chicago and gang violence.

Milano was able to garner support from other feminists on Twitter, many using “#Lysistrata2019.”

This is the latest example that irony is dead in 2019. She’s calling for abstinence to prevent pregnancy. What a novel approach, right? With one tweet, Alyssa Milano owned herself.

Our reproductive rights are being erased.

Until women have legal control over our own bodies we just cannot risk pregnancy.

This is literally the narrative used in every home in America led by responsible parents of puberty-aged children. Don’t have sex until you are able to accept the responsibility of a child. Preferably, just don’t have sex. It’s a part of the ‘sex talk’. Alyssa Milano unintentionally admitted that abstinence works. The fact that the heartbeat bill – or any legislation, for that matter – does not ban or restrict birth control for women or men was ignored. Condoms, birth control pills, diaphragms, and the rest are all still available to prevent pregnancy. Why call for the dramatic action of abstinence when normal birth control methods prevent pregnancy in the first place?

Needless to say, Twitter is loaded with responses to Milano’s call to action. Or, in this case, inaction.

Alyssa Milano’s directive was not the first extreme reaction, believe it or not. Westworld actress Evan Rachel Wood suggested mandatory vasectomies as retaliation Thursday night.

Then she walked it back Friday, citing hypocrisy.

“I dont want mandatory vasectomies because I dont believe we should legislate peoples bodies,” she said. “its a dangerous slippery slope. I used the example to point out the hypocrisy of always putting the responsibility, punishment, blame, or means of prevention, solely on women.”

Women like Alyssa Milano reduce all women to the sum total of their body parts, specifically reproductive organs. And they insult men by portraying them all as only interested in women as sexual objects. The result is a coarsened society with women who “shout their abortions” as a tool of empowerment. The third-wave feminism practiced by Milano dehumanizes all humanity, including unborn babies.

Milano promises to not sign on for another season of Insatiable, currently filmed in Georgia, if it is picked up for another season unless the filming location moves out of state. Too bad all those Georgians losing jobs over the exit of the entertainment industry don’t have the luxury of being as nonchalent with their employment status as a Hollywood elitist.
