That time when Bill Maher skewered Adam Schiff about "stalking" Trump

When Adam Schiff has lost Bill Maher, he’s in new territory. Maher may still be a supporter of the California representative but he actually called Schiff out on his obsession with alleged wrongdoings by President Trump and his 2016 campaign. It is music to my ears.

My sister sent me a clip of Friday’s Real Time with Bill Maher and it is fun to watch Schiff squirm. As he and Maher begin to discuss the Mueller report, Maher notes that the report was looked upon by Trump opponents as “the big gun”. Then, because nothing came in the report’s findings that are impeachable offenses, Maher said to Schiff, “Now it just looks like you’re stalking him”. Yes. Yes, it does, Bill Maher. Schiff looks a little stunned at Maher’s observation, no doubt because he is usually hailed as a leader of #TheResistance. How could Bill Maher give him a dose of truth?

Rep. Schiff, who seemed taken aback by the “stalking” comment, responded, “I’m not there yet on impeachment. I may get there—he may get me there—but here’s the awful dilemma that we face: if we don’t impeach him, that sends a message that this kind of conduct—this obstruction of justice, this kind of willing use of the help of a foreign adversary, all the lies and cover-up—that this is non-impeachable. At the same time, if we do impeach him, and he is acquitted, as he would likely be acquitted, then the message is: those are non-impeachable offenses.”

He concluded: “At the end of the day, Bill, there is only one way to deal with the problem whether we impeach him or not, and that is to vote his ass out of office.”

Adam Schiff lost his mind long ago about collusion and the Trump campaign. He boldly stated with certainty that he had evidence of collusion. As happens with Democrats and their cohorts in the media, Schiff hasn’t been asked to cough up that evidence in light of the Mueller report which reaches another conclusion. He ironically notes that the 2020 election is a way to end Trump’s governance. He’s a guy that can’t seem to accept the results of the 2016 presidential election but he knows that impeachment isn’t going to happen. He and the Democrats just have to keep voters ginned up so they will come out to vote.

Schiff is bewildered that Robert Mueller actually did his job and didn’t deviate from established law or procedure. He then went on to admit, when pressed by Maher, that he is advising Democrat candidates not to talk about Russia. Maher points out that most of America really isn’t paying much attention to the Mueller report other than to hear the bottom line of its findings. And, he pointed out that all he hears Schiff and other Democrat leaders talk about is Trump and the potential to begin impeachment proceedings, not issues that Americans care about like health care, for example.

In his HBO show’s monologue, Maher has plenty to say about Mueller and his disgust with the report. He refers to “Prosecutor Jesus”, a nod to the anticipation felt by Trump’s opposition that the Mueller report would save America from the bad Orange Man. Classy.

“For over two years America has had a crazy person in the White House and for over two years the Democrats have done f— all about it because they were waiting for Mueller. We all sat around waiting for ‘Prosecutor Jesus’ to turn in his big report. And he came back with, ‘Ask someone else,'” Maher said during the show’s “New Rules” segment.

“We needed Superman and we got Clark Kent.”

Not all heroes wear capes. Robert Mueller did his job. Yes, he punted when it came to the counts of obstruction and kicked it back to Congress but the big issue of collusion – the original mandate of the special counsel – is finished. Unless Nancy Pelosi completely loses control of the House members begging for impeachment hearings to begin, which is always a possibility considering the state of the Democrat Party right now, the soft coup has been avoided and Democrats will just have to try and remove President Trump the old fashioned way – with an election. For success in that endeavor, even Adam Schiff knows that Russia, Russia, Russia isn’t going to cut it.
