Bill Maher: I know Trump's a traitor, "I have a TV"

The refusal of Democrats to accept the findings in the Mueller report kept cable news shows lively over the weekend. With the release of the Attorney General’s letter to congressional leadership Sunday, the logical response would have been to ramp down the rhetoric against President Trump. That is not what happened.

After Mr. Mueller’s report was handed off to Attorney General Barr late Friday afternoon, Democrats and their cohorts in the media and Hollywood began a preemptive strike against the report. Anything short of impeachable offenses was going to be the wrong conclusion. Some went even further. Cable show host Bill Maher’s response was, “I don’t need the Mueller report to know Trump’s a traitor. I have a TV.” On his Friday night show, Maher began by asking a question. “Did Democrats put too much trust in the Mueller report?” It went downhill from there. Rep. Eric Swalwell was only too happy to agree with Maher’s hot takes. Apparently, Swalwell has a TV, too.

Maher first asked if the “Democrats put too much trust in the Mueller report” while showing his surprise and disappointment about the lack of indictments still to come. Guest Rep. Eric Swalwell (D-CA), while he first mentioned ongoing investigations that may yield further indictments, seemed to agree with Maher’s take, saying, “Yes, if you have a TV or a Twitter account, you’ve already seen obstruction of justice.”

Democrats are actually angry that President Trump didn’t collude with the Russians. Think about that. They’re disappointed that the Mueller investigation was unable to uncover a plot that produced Trump’s victory in 2016, a classic “party over country” territory” situation. They should be relieved, at the least, that our election results are legitimately the voice of American voters. But no, the idea is to continue with the narrative and cast a cloud over Trump’s first term. Swalwell said the White House “shouldn’t try to “edit” the Mueller report before the public sees it. He said the House Intelligence Committee will subpoena Mueller. And, Trump has “no credibility”, too.

Swalwell told Maher that Trump has “no credibility” since he never sat down with the special counsel to do an interview, insisting that proves the president has a “conscience of guilt.”

Rep. Swalwell is on record as saying he believes Trump colluded with the Russians, not just his campaign. Lots of Democrats are so far out on a limb about the phony collusion story that it’s now difficult for them to walk it back. Special Counsel Mueller’s team interviewed over 200 people, no collusion was found, so now the narrative will shift and Mueller will be blamed for the satisfying the left’s narrative. Attorney General Barr was accused of chicanery even before he sent his letter summarizing his opinion on the Mueller report to congressional leadership. MSNBC’s Joy Reid smells a cover-up.

But the fact that this investigation takes place within the Justice Department, which Donald Trump essentially controls and he got rid of the problem Jeff Sessions, who the one decent thing that he did was recuse himself. This guy is not recused, it feels like the seeds of a cover-up are here.

Reid’s guest, Elie Mystal referred to Barr as “Trump’s flunky” and described President Trump as Barr’s “sugar daddy”. He thinks Barr stopped the investigation and he’s angry that Barr didn’t recuse himself as Jeff Sessions did.

I don’t even know why we think that Barr isn’t the one who stopped the investigation,” he continued. “This is a 22-month-long investigation, Barr’s been on the scene for a month, and now we’re done? That doesn’t strike anybody as odd? No, I have absolutely no confidence that Bill Barr will do anything other than what is in the best interest of Donald Trump.

Now what might be in the best interest of Donald Trump is to release information about all the people Mueller prosecuted and why, and to release information on all the reasons Mueller didn’t choose to prosecute Trump or his children without releasing any of the information about what they actually did. Why wouldn’t he do that? What Trump administration official has conducted themselves honorably throughout this entire process? None of them. Why would Barr be any different?

Two men with stellar reputations in Washington, D.C., Robert Mueller and William Barr, can’t find collusion or treason during an investigation that lasted 675 days and cost tens of millions of taxpayer dollars and the left is angry. It is more important to them that the country is compromised than it is that we have a president who was found to have simply won an election. We should all be celebrating that the system still works.
