Legendary singer Cher presented Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi with a VH1 Trailblazer Award recently. It was a love fest between one 70-something-year-old singer and a 70-something-year-old politician. Mostly though, Cher is just happy that America isn’t run by so many old white guys anymore.

“We hear the word ‘icon’ a lot, you know, describing people like me, and as far as I’m concerned, the one true icon in this room tonight is the woman we’re honoring,” she said, referring to House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, one of four women feted during a seamless taping of VH1 Trailblazer Honors. “Since the days of our founding fathers, since they signed the Declaration of Independence, our country has been run almost exclusively by old white guys. Thankfully, because of Nancy and other strong women, this is changing. Nancy is a fighter who won’t back down. She muscled through the [Affordable Healthcare Act], and [she] isn’t afraid to go toe to toe with a bully and beat him at his own game.”

The bully to which Cher referred is President Trump, of course. It is good to see that Cher acknowledges that Pelosi is also a bully, though no doubt that was unintentional. She even pointed out Pelosi’s tendency toward authoritarian measures as she mentioned Pelosi “muscled through” Obamacare. Cher takes great comfort knowing that Pelosi is in charge again and protecting her from the bad orange man.

“When I see Trump spew his hate and tell his gazillion lies, I get pissed off and I feel uneasy at the same time. I see Nancy come on TV and I think, ‘OK, this is all good, Nancy is in the house,'” she added.

To close out her time at the microphone, she praised Pelosi’s leadership and her longstanding dedication to “the underdog, women and the LGBTQ community.” She got tripped up over the letters LGBTQ, quickly catching herself and offering this quip: “I should be able to this so easily, right?” She continued: “She is the highest-ranking woman ever in American politics and because of her and other strong women like her, soon there will be a woman president. She gives me hope and courage and she is elegant and formidable and when I grow up I want to be just like her.”

You didn’t think Cher would leave out the politics of sexual identification, did you? Poor Cher had a problem getting the initials out but the crowd didn’t care. A liberal making a mistake is ok among other liberals. It’s only when a conservative slips up that causes a ripple in an audience. The audience was mostly female. It’s tough being a white guy in today’s world. Also presented with an award was Margaret Atwood, author of The Handmaid’s Tale. That fictional book is all the rage in Trump’s America on the left. Women who probably never read the book believe the dystopia presented in the story is just like America today. Acute Trump Derangement Syndrome will do that.

Speaker Pelosi returned the gushy compliments back to Cher. She no doubt has future fundraisers in mind. She called Cher “the goddess of rock”. Look, I have been a fan for decades, since the days of Sonny and Cher, but a goddess is a stretch even for Cher. Woke feminists like to refer to other women as goddesses, though, so Pelosi sounded contemporary.

“Let us thank Cher for honoring us with her presence this evening,” Pelosi said in accepting her trophy to a standing ovation. “I’m honored to receive this Trailblazer award from a trailblazer — the goddess of rock. Thank you for all that you do to make the world a better place.”

Pelosi then took a few minutes to list off all the battles she’s currently fighting on behalf of women, minorities and the LGBTQ community, things like healthcare options and the end to sexual harassment and assault. “Every person deserves to be free of abuse in the home and the workplace and every place,” she said. “Understand this: the women of Congress have the ability and the strength and the experience and have had success in the national security of our country in a strong economy in our country. There is no issue that is not a women’s issue.”

On that I agree, Speaker Pelosi. Every issue is a woman’s issue. The unending victimhood of women at the hands of men is a bit stale, though. She’s the Speaker of the House, serving in the role she’s had before. The most ironic bit of history of all, in her case, is that former Democrat Donald Trump donated to her campaigns in the past. Hollywood embraced Donald Trump before he switched to the Republican Party and ran for president. Now he’s a bully and the horrible orange man leading America into a world of Stepford Wives. You can’t make this stuff up.

Pelosi vowed to “display this Trailblazer honor in the Capitol of the United States of America.” Who likes to honor themselves more – politicians or entertainers? I think it’s a toss-up.
