McCabe book bumped from #1 spot on Amazon best-seller list

Unless you have been living under a bridge like a troll in Three Billy Goats Gruff, you know that disgraced former FBI deputy director Andrew McCabe is hitting all the television cameras he can to promote his memoir,The Threat: How the FBI Protects America in the Age of Terror and Trump. Hey, that GoFundMe money isn’t going to last forever.

McCabe no doubt fancies himself in the same celebrity sphere as his pal James Comey. Though he is getting a tough question here and there, let’s face it — the lefties in the media love the guy for being at the forefront of #TheResistance. In a piece by CNN’s Brian Stelter, the book was described as an “instant bestseller” and included a quote from anti-Trump Republican Ana Navarro, also a CNN contributor. On ABC’s The View, Navarro told McCabe not to worry about Trump’s tweeting against him because it will only increase book sales. The New York City liberal audience lapped it up.

Co-host Ana Navarro, who is also a CNN commentator, put a positive spin on it: “When Trump tweets against you, don’t get sad, honey. Get happy,” she said.”It’s the best thing that can happen for your book sales.”

As the audience laughed and applauded, McCabe said, “I suppose that’s possible.”

Never mind that McCabe was fired for being less than candid (liar, liar, pants on fire). Late night talk show hosts and cable news shows are so deep into propping up anyone willing to slam President Trump in public that the perhaps criminal way the FBI was politicized during his tenure doesn’t particularly concern the interviewers. So, imagine my surprise when I read a juicy little tidbit Wednesday claiming that McCabe’s book slipped from the #1 spot on Amazon’s bestseller list to #2. It was #5 on the Barnes and Noble website. The story behind the fall is a really good one.

On Tuesday the book slipped to No. 2 on Amazon’s constantly-updated best sellers list, but it remained No. 1 on the list of new releases. (Tuesday’s No. 1 book on Amazon is the three-year-old memoir “Five Presidents” by veteran Secret Service agent Clint Hill. The sudden rush of sales was thanks to a Facebook post by TV host Mike Rowe, who described a chance encounter with Hill. Rowe encouraged people to buy Hill’s book, and the Facebook post went viral, with 175,000 shares so far.)

That’s right. A conservative-leaning TV host who is beloved for delivering feel-good stories about real Americans knocked McCabe’s book to #2 when his Facebook post about meeting Clint Hill in a bar went viral. By all accounts, Mr. Hill is a true patriot, serving five presidents as a member of their Secret Service details. He served Presidents Eisenhower through Ford. Now 87 years old, he’s best known as the agent who leaped from the car behind President and Mrs. Kennedy in their Dallas motorcade and jumped into the President’s car to protect Mrs. Kennedy during JFK’s assassination. As I said, a real hero.

Mr. Hill carries a business card with the recipe for his favorite adult beverage printed on it to give to bartenders. It’s called The Clint. He gave a card to Rowe who went on to include the recipe in his Facebook and Instagram posts. The surprising ingredient? Campari. To each his own, I guess.

Rowe’s idea to take The Clint to Gimlet status via social media made for an interesting break from all the usual news stories of the day. As Rowe says, real stories about real people living their best lives are what the world wants.

Let’s be clear, friends. This happened because the world wants to hear real stories about real people who live their lives as best they can, even as they risk everything for others. You all proved that yesterday, and in the process, you made an 87-year old hero very, very happy. You also reminded me why social media is not all bad. Thanks. Now, wanna take it up a notch?

How about this – a big chunk of the 21,000 comments that followed yesterday’s post, were inquires regarding the ingredients in The Clint. Apparently, the card wasn’t readily visible in everyone’s newsfeed, so here it is again, for your convenience. But why stop there?

“Dear Campari. We the undersigned thought you might like to know an 87-year old hero named Clint Hill likes your hooch. A lot. So much so, it’s the main ingredient in a drink called, The Clint; a drink whose recipe is on a business card; a business card he hands out to bartenders and B-list celebrities all over this great nation. I’m no expert, but it seems to me The Clint could be on the verge of becoming famous. Far be it from We The Undersigned to overstep our bounds, but this seems to be a wise time for Campari to go about the business of making The Clint a household name. #justsayin…”

Axios’ Jonathan Swan reports that President Trump and his people are going to be using the McCabe book as further proof that the Deep State exists and they will zero in on the whole 25th Amendment kerfuffle while saying all his other claims are false. Pass the popcorn.
