White House press secretary tweets picture of pie and reporter loses her mind

It’s a slow news weekend with President Trump in Florida with his family for Thanksgiving. Still, a story jumped out as perhaps the silliest one possible as I checked in with cable news Saturday morning. I actually heard a story that a White House reporter decided to question a bit of humblebragging the White House Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders did on social media. Sanders offered up a picture of her holiday dessert – chocolate pecan pie – on Twitter during Thanksgiving Day. Now there is #PieGate. Yes, it’s a thing.

Innocent enough, right? Nope. Not in today’s super-energized Twitterverse. April Ryan, a White House reporter known for such hard-hitting journalism as asking Sanders if slavery was wrong and her personal tiff with Trump aide Omarosa Manigault, decided to question the authenticity of Sanders pie baking skills. In order to prove the pie’s existence, Ryan demanded a picture of the pie on Sanders’ Thanksgiving meal table. Really? No wonder Trump supporters have such a disdain for the press.

From an article on Fox.com:

Ryan wanted proof, tweeting: “Show it to us on a table.”

Following her tweet, many social media users came to Ryan’s defense and demanded the pie be shown in a different setting, proving it was the real deal. The hashtag piegate started circulating.

And a tweet followed claiming that #piegate and #fakepie were happening on Twitter and she must also show a picture of her “cooking” it. (Fox.com)

Ryan tweeted Friday: “I am not trying to be funny but folks are already saying #piegate and #fakepie. Show it to us on the table with folks eating it and a pic of you cooking it. I am getting the biggest laugh out of this. I am thankful for this laugh on Black Friday!

Sanders’ good nature came through, though, as she responded with an offer to bake one for Ryan. Apparently, Sanders is known for her chocolate pecan pie and she bakes it as an annual tradition, as this piece on FoxNews.com informs us. Ryan couldn’t let that be the last of the nonsense. She said she’d decline to eat it because of the administration’s dislike of the press.

Okay I want to watch you bake it and put it on the table. But forgive I won’t eat it. Remember you guys don’t like the press.

Ms. Ryan must have been having a really boring Black Friday to troll the White House Press Secretary, from whom her job is to receive information, about a pie. #PieGate. Who would have imagined such a thing?

As a side note, I use Instagram to show my baking results. There is a much nicer crowd over there.
