The allegations here are pretty astounding, so much so that you have to wonder if they could be true. Still, an FBI whistleblower has come forward and the House Judiciary Committee is now investigating. According to this whistleblower, former FBI Director James Comey ran an off-the-books investigation of the Trump campaign which involved posing two undercover FBI agents as "honeypots" to gather information.

The whistleblower disclosure said two female FBI undercover agents infiltrated Mr. Trump’s 2016 campaign at high levels and were directed to act as “honeypots” while traveling with Mr. Trump and his campaign staff on the trail...

The agent “personally knew” that Mr. Comey ordered an FBI investigation against Mr. Trump and that Mr. Comey “personally directed it,” according to the disclosure.

The existence of this investigation, which preceded Crossfire Hurricane, was never entered into any FBI system and was later hidden from Justice Department Inspector General Michael E. Horowitz.

The undercover “honeypot” agents targeted Trump campaign adviser George Papadopoulos, according to the whistleblower...

The FBI whistleblower said that the off-the-books investigation was closed because a newspaper obtained a photograph of one of the undercover agents and was about to publish it.

At this point, the FBI allegedly lied to the media outlet about the person in the photograph, claiming they were an FBI source whose life would be in danger if they were revealed. In fact, the person was an undercover FBI agent who was in no danger.

According to the whistleblower, one of the two "honeypot" agents was transferred to the CIA so they wouldn't be available to talk and the other was promoted and is currently an FBI executive.

In addition to Comey and the two female agents, the whistleblower names Deputy Director Dave Bowdich and Paul Abbate of the Washington field office as two other FBI officials involved in the off-record investigation. But once it fell apart, they were all sworn to secrecy, promising never to discuss it even amongst themselves.

“The FBI employee personally observed one or more employees in the FBI being directed to never discuss the operation with anyone ever again, which included talking with other people involved in the operation,” the disclosure states.

Again, what this has going against it is that it really sounds like criminal behavior out of a spy novel. Then again, just because something sounds cartoonishly evil doesn't mean it didn't happen. In fact, sometimes people may count on getting away with bad behavior because normal people will find it difficult to believe anyone would behave that way.
