This story from the SF Standard caught my eye. They asked for reactions to the Trump verdict and, as you would expect in San Francisco, a lot of people are thrilled.

If you find yourself near Standard Deviant Brewing in the Mission on Friday, you can stop from 4 to 10 p.m. at their taproom at 280 14th St. for a $10, 34-ounce beer to commemorate the 34 guilty counts...

At the Cinch Saloon at 1723 Polk St. in Nob Hill, you can imbibe a cocktail of vodka, orange juice and bitters that manager Eric Berchtold has dubbed “The Orange Menace.” The concoction was $7 during happy hour from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday evening and $8 after. Well drinks and beers are also $1 off during happy hour.

In the Castro, Lookout, located at 3600 16th St., was offering a $10 “Collusion Crush” and $9 “Dark and Stormy Daniels” drinks on Thursday night.

On the other side of the country, there were cheers when Whoopi Goldberg announced the news of Trump's conviction the The View's New York audience.

"The View" was unsurprisingly jubilant on Friday over the conviction of former President Trump in his historic criminal trial, celebrating the news as a triumph for the country and the hosts themselves.

"I felt like America won," co-host Sunny Hostin said. "I felt like New York won. I felt like the Manhattan DA's office won. I felt like I won."...

Co-host Whoopi Goldberg, who normally takes Fridays off, appeared for the live broadcast and dramatically read the news of the guilty verdict to cheers and applause from the audience.

Sunny Hostin went on to get the audience more riled up when she suggested Trump was likely to spend at least 6 months in Rikers.

But at the same time all of these people are celebrating, Trump's campaign also has some reason to celebrate this morning. They had a massive, record-breaking fundraising haul last night.

Former President Donald J. Trump’s campaign announced that he had raised $34.8 million in the wake of his felony conviction, shattering online records for Republicans and an early sign of the extent to which the base was rallying behind him.

The campaign said in a statement that nearly 30 percent of the donors who gave online were new to the party’s online donating platform, WinRed, giving the former president an invaluable infusion of new contributions to tap in the coming months...

Cash has been one of President Biden’s advantages so far in the race. His campaign has been advertising in key battleground states since Mr. Trump emerged as the Republican nominee while Mr. Trump has been absent from the airwaves. The post-conviction money will help Mr. Trump close the gap with the Democratic incumbent.

The one-day haul was even greater than the $26 million that the Biden campaign had announced four years ago in the 24 hours after he had named Kamala Harris as his vice-presidential pick.

It's a truly massive amount of money. To put it in perspective, the Biden campaign raised $51 million for the entire month of April. And the $35 million Trump raised wasn't even a full day. All of that money came in between 6 pm and midnight, so about six hours. No doubt donations continued to pour in after that point. Maybe we'll get an update on that later today.

Progressives can celebrate all they want but in American politics, as in physics, every action creates an equal and opposite reaction. One thing everyone agrees on is that this will not prevent Trump from continuing to run for office. He's taken a hit but he hasn't been knocked out of this race. On the contrary, this seems to be helping him at the moment. 

We'll have to wait and see how this plays out over the next several weeks but Trump's conviction may not turn out to be the turning point these celebrants have been hoping for. On the contrary, this may have improved his odds of re-election in a race he was already winning. Even in San Francisco, one of the people who responded to the news wrote, "Headed to a party? Why yes. The Republican party, for good."
