Pro-Palestinian Protesters Demand NY Times be Shut Down, Vandalize NYPD Vehicle

A group of several hundred pro-Palestinian protesters gathered in Bryant Park this afternoon to demand a ceasefire in Gaza.

The NY Post reports:

The crowds of demonstrators labeled Israel a “terrorist state” while chanting “From river to the sea, Palestine will be free” – a phrase known to call for the eradication of Israel — as they marched through midtown on Thursday evening…

“Biden, Biden, you can’t hide, you’re supporting genocide,” protesters also yelled just hours after the commander in chief told reporters there is “no possibility” of a cease-fire between Israel and Hamas.

Susan Sarandon was briefly a speaker at the rally. This Reuters clip is nearly 30 minutes long and gives a sense of what was being said.

Protesters then started to march and made their way to the NY Times building. There they read the names of the paper’s editorial board and accused them of having blood on their hands:

Some of the protesters got inside the lobby and held chants demanding a ceasefire.

More from the lobby:

I’m honestly not sure why they are upset with the NY Times, the paper that eagerly ran with Hamas’ claims about the hospital bombing. But they were demanding the paper be shut down.

Meanwhile, outside the building some fine citizens decided to vandalize an NYPD vehicle. Not sure what his has to do with the war in Gaza. I think it’s just that the left can’t help turning on police wherever they see them. So far I don’t see any video of the vandals in action even though there were hundreds of people right there with phones.

After a while the protesters moved on and headed to Times Square:

Apparently there was already a big crowd in Times Square tonight because a member of BTS was performing. Sort of a different vibe:

The NY Times now has a story up about today’s protest. It barely mentions the protest inside their own building, leaving it to one sentence near the very end. It also leaves out most of what protesters were chanting, i.e. no “From river to the sea” and nothing about the NY Times having blood on its hands.

The march in Midtown closed sections of Fifth Avenue before protesters turned onto 34th Street, snarling evening commute traffic. Participants waved Palestinian flags and chanted “Shut it down” and “Free Palestine” to a drumbeat as they passed under the Christmas lights already strung along Macy’s facade…

As the protest wound its way up Eighth Avenue toward Times Square, it paused in front of the doors of The New York Times — with dozens breaking off to protest in the lobby — before returning to Bryant Park.

Outside the building on West 40th Street, a police cruiser’s back window was smashed, and the vehicle was graffitied with the words “IDF KKK.”

It’s not clear if this is over for the night or if this crowd will decide on more vandalism before the night is over.
