You may have seen part of this clip circulating on X today. The backstory is that hundreds of vehicles were making their way to the Burning Man festival in Nevada Saturday on a two lane highway. A group of climate protesters decided to seize on this bottleneck by setting a trailer in the roadway. This quickly created a backup of stopped vehicles that stretched for miles.

At first a group of men from the long line of stopped cars decided they would simply drag the trailer off the road. But one of the male protesters blocked their efforts and some of the women protesters chained themselves to the trailer.

One of the guys who got out of his car to see what was happening noted that Burning Man attendees were an extremely liberal group of people (and yet they were getting pissed off). A few people started driving their vehicles off road to get around the blockade.

And of course the protesters did the thing where they intentionally move in front of a car, lean on it and then go crazy if the driver moves an inch.

Finally, tribal police arrived and literally gave the protesters 30 seconds to get off the road. The exact words were “Disband. Get off the highway. This is a state route. Everybody will be arrested if not.” Then he added, “30 seconds. Send your leader to my vehicle. Let’s talk. Get off the f**king road.” There’s a cut in the video but soon after the police just plowed through the barrier with a truck and then immediately started making arrests. I think the best part is when Mr. “I’m not part of this” gets rolled on his face and arrested.

So after a few more minutes the protesters were all arrested and the road was cleared.

These protesters could have stood on the side of the road and protested all day long. No one would have cared. In fact, they probably would have gotten a lot of support from this crowd. But if you’re on the road creating problems for police and other people, you don’t get to act shocked that people are angry.

Finally, a bonus clip. This is another group of climate activists blocking a road in Washington DC.

DC police weren’t quite as aggressive but they did cut down the usual proceedings to one warning instead of three and then arrested everyone.

3) Police typically give three warnings before arresting road-blockers in DC, but this time, they gave one: "You're not getting three warnings!"
