Earlier this month, CUNY law grads booed and turned their back on Mayor Eric Adams, at least partly because he’s a former cop. “Let’s be clear, for 22 years of my life I wore a bulletproof vest and protected the children and families of this city,” Adams said to loud boos from the graduates.

It turns out the reaction to Adams wasn’t the worst behavior at the ceremony. The worst came in the form of graduation speaker Fatima Mousa Mohammed who railed about the NYPD, white supremacy, capitalism and Zionism in her speech. The whole speech was like a left-wing extremist’s medley of greatest hits.

“Like many of you, I chose CUNY School of Law for its articulated mission, ‘Law in the Service of Human Needs,’ one of very few legal institutions created to recognize that the law is a manifestation of white supremacy that continues to oppress and suppress people in this nation and around the world,” she said…

“We joined this institution to be equipped with the necessary legal skills to protect our communities,” she continued, noting that she and her peers enrolled in the program to tackle “systems of oppression.

“Systems of oppression created to feed an empire with a ravenous appetite for destruction and violence. Institutions created to intimidate, bully and censor and stifle the voices of those who resist,” she said…

She called on her fellow grads to dismantle capitalism, telling them she hopes their rage becomes “the fuel for the fight against capitalism, racism, imperialism and Zionism around the world.

When I wrote about this last month I included a full video of the event which has since been made private. Apparently, CUNY wanted to hide this. Maybe they realized it didn’t make them look too good. But someone uploaded another copy so it’s getting belated attention this week.

The speaker accused Israel of “indiscriminate” murder, encouraging “lynch mobs” and lauded resistance to “Zionism around the world.”

The City University of New York (CUNY) Law School had hidden the video after coming under criticism for the ceremony…

“This is the law school that passed and endorsed BDS on a student and faculty level, recognizing that absent a critical imperialism settler colonialism lens, our work and the school’s mission statement is void of value as Israel continues to indiscriminately rain bullets and bombs on worshipers, murdering the old, the young, attacking the funerals and graveyards as it encourages lynch mobs,” she said…

Mohammed is a member of CUNY Law’s chapter of Students for Justice in Palestine, which has spearheaded BDS and other anti-Israel initiatives on campus.

It’s definitely out there now.

The speech did attract some criticism even from those on the left.

Finally, CUNY put together their own highlight reel from the graduation. The heckling of the mayor was not included. They did include a bit of Fatima Mousa Mohammed’s speech but nothing controversial. If you just watched this clip you’d have no idea who these students really are.
