Some are clamoring to cancel Evangeline Lilly for opposing vaccine mandates

The very online left can’t go a day without selecting a new villain they can target for social punishment. It looks like today they might momentarily put aside their desire to punish Joe Rogan in order to focus on actress Evangeline Lilly. Lilly, best known for her role in Lost and in two Marvel films where she plays the character Wasp, posted a statement on Instagram opposing vaccine mandates:

Lilly has weighed in on this issue once before:

Back at the start of the pandemic in March, 2020, Lilly announced on Instagram she was refusing to social distance “all in the name of a respiratory flu,” which led to some backlash. She later posted an apology for her comments. “I want to offer my sincere and heartfelt apology for the insensitivity I showed in my previous post to the very real suffering and fear that has gripped the world through COVID19,” Lilly wrote at the time. “I thought I was infusing calm into the hysteria. I can see now that I was projecting my own fears into an already fearful and traumatic situation.”

A vaccine mandate for large companies was withdrawn by the Biden administration this week after a Supreme Court decision blocked it. Many states and cities have their own independent vaccine requirements for various workers, however.

Both the text and the photos above indicate Lilly is focused on the issue of mandates, not vaccines themselves. Nevertheless, she’s trending on Twitter this afternoon as people demand she be punished for offering this opinion.

Fellow MCU actress Letitia Wright who had a major role in Black Panther made headlines in 2020 after she linked to a video questioning the safety of COVID vaccines.

The Black Panther star tweeted a video from On the Table, a YouTube discussion channel, where the presenter opined at length about the efficacy of vaccines, the dangers of taking them and the supposed origins of the ingredients of a COVID-19 vaccine. “I don’t understand vaccines medically, but I’ve always been a little bit of a skeptic of them,” the presenter Tomi Arayomi says toward the beginning of his monologue, which was full of unsubstantiated claims, amid personal anecdotes and his own feelings on vaccines generally…

Following a torrent of Twitter users admonishing her for posting the video, Wright tweeted, “if you don’t conform to popular opinions. but ask questions and think for yourself….you get cancelled.”

Production on the Black Panther sequel finally restarted last week after a delay caused by Wright being injured during a stunt. Given that Wright wasn’t dumped by Marvel after posting something that questioned the vaccines themselves, it’s hard to believe they would drop Lilly who seemed to have been focused on the issue of mandates. That’s especially true now that the Supreme Court has blocked enforcement of the employer mandate.

But it won’t stop progressives on Twitter from demanding another cancelation. Once you take a position they disagree with, a campaign demanding punishment is inevitable. I guess we’ll have to wait and see if Lilly offers an apology or if the mob simply goes back to trying to hound Joe Rogan off Spotify by tomorrow.
