Man who threatened to kill President Trump is on the run from the FBI

Shawn Christy made death threats against President Trump on social media this summer. Now he is on the run and wanted by the FBI which has put out a $10,000 reward for information leading to his capture. Here’s the FBI’s own summary of the list of people Christy has threatened:

Christy is wanted for allegedly threatening to harm and/or kill a police chief, other law enforcement officers, a district attorney, and President Donald J. Trump. Christy allegedly posted the threats on Facebook between June 3 and 12, 2018, saying that he was going to shoot President Trump in the head, and was going to use “lethal force” on any law enforcement officer attempting to detain him. A federal arrest warrant was issued for Christy by the United States District Court, Middle District of Pennsylvania, Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania, on June 19, 2018, after he was charged with Interstate Communication of Threats and Threats Against the President of the United States.

Sunday, Christy allegedly stole a pickup truck in Pennsylvania and drove it to Ohio where he crashed it on the side of a highway. From Lehigh Valley Live:

Authorities said early Sunday, the 26-year-old Christy made off with a white GMC Sierra 2500HD from the Skitco Iron Works in Hazle Township, Luzerne County.

Pennsylvania State Police in Hazleton said the thief got into the building by breaking a front office window. The vehicle, police said, was parked in a back garage.

Ohio State patrol said they were called Sunday afternoon to a single vehicle crash on Interstate 71 North.

They found the stolen truck, and the driver, believed to be Christy, ran away.

This isn’t the first time Christy has made threats against a public figure. In 2010, Sarah Palin requested a protection order from Christy. Both he and his father pleaded guilty to making harassing phone calls to a law office representing Sarah Palin a couple years later. Morning Call offered this timeline of events involving Palin:

Early 2009. As a 17-year-old, Christy develops an online chat relationship with Gov. Palin or her 14-year-old daughter or, possibly, an FBI agent posing as one of them, according to Christy family members. The FBI tells him to back off the chats, family members say. Palin family lawyers say Christy never had a relationship, online or off-line, with any of the Palins. Christy has never shown evidence of messages between him and a Palin, the lawyers say, because there were no messages.

Sept. 27, 2010. Shawn Christy is hit with a temporary protection-from-abuse order from former Alaska governor Sarah Palin and her friend Kristan Cole for allegedly bombarding them with unwelcome and threatening phone calls and emails. The PFA is granted after Palin says she fears Christy is in Alaska or is on his way. A full six-month PFA, requiring Christy to stay at least a mile from either woman and their families, is approved Oct. 11, 2010.

Feb. 11, 2011. Christy, now 19, goes to Anchorage, Alaska, on Sarah Palin’s birthday. He says he is there to do an interview with an Alaska newspaper reporter.

May 5, 2011. The Palin-Cole PFA against Christy is extended another six months.

Aug. 18, 2011. Christy and his father, Craig Christy, are arrested by federal authorities in Allentown on charges of harassing Palin’s lawyers with threatening messages and hundreds of other phone calls. Christy eventually pleads guilty of harassment and is sentenced to probation, but he spends two years in federal prison after he leaves a Scranton halfway house in violation of probation. He says the halfway house had bed bugs that bit him hundreds of times.

There’s a lot more to the timeline leading up to his threats against President Trump this summer. He sounds, to be blunt, like a complete nut who has zero self-control. Here’s hoping the police in Ohio and/or the FBI catch up with him soon.
