Tomi Lahren gets water thrown on her and receives support from President Trump (and Kathy Griffin?)

Yes, we’re going to talk about Tomi Lahren. Lahren was at a Minneapolis restaurant having brunch with her parents over the weekend when a table full of twenty-somethings decided to film themselves cursing at her and throwing a glass of water at her. The audio portion of this clip is NSFW as it includes someone yelling “F**k that b***h” repeatedly:

It’s not completely clear to me what the order of events was here. Did the drink tossing happen at the beginning or the end of the exchange? Either way, it’s obviously inappropriate as is cursing at her in a crowded restaurant. Lahren appeared on Fox and Friends this morning to discuss what happened:

“This was something that was embarrassing for me, embarrassing for my family. At the end of the day I’m a person too and I do get humiliated and embarrassed just like anyone else but I’m tough, my family’s tough, we can handle it,” Lahren said. Speaking of the people who behaved this way toward her, Lahren added, “I think looking back those are the people that are going to be embarrassed by their actions. I think their parents raised them better.” That seems pretty generous in my estimation.

Lahren is getting support this morning from an important fan:

That tweet doesn’t come as a complete surprise but this one does:

And while this response from Lahren doesn’t mention Griffin specifically, the timing seems right.

That was actually a decent thing for Kathy Griffin to say and Lahren responded graciously. Has the entire world turned upside down! Well, no, not really. Most of Twitter seems to be celebrating the mistreatment of Lahren or attacking Trump for supporting her. Twitter still sucks, in other words. I’m not going to pick out a bunch of examples, you can review them here if you feel the need. But let’s just say there are thousands of people on the left who think this was wonderful.

Where have we seen this before, this idea that shouting people down and threatening them in public is reasonable if you disagree with their speech? Oh, right, it’s the same impulse we’ve seen play out on college campuses around the country. This is just another instance of the heckler’s veto in action, i.e. trying to threaten someone into silence. And if the water didn’t work, maybe next time someone will throw the glass instead. If you think there aren’t plenty of people on the left who would celebrate that too, you haven’t been paying attention.
