Standing before remnants of an Iranian made, short-range missile, UN Ambassador Nikki Haley she was offering indisputable proof that Iran was supplying weapons to militants in Yemen in violation of UN Security Council resolutions. She said this particular missile had been manufactured in Iran, delivered to Yemen, and later fired at a commercial airport in Saudi Arabia.

“It’s hard to find a conflict or a terror group in the Middle East that does not have Iran’s fingerprints all over it,” Haley said. She continued, “Four days ago, Iranian foreign minister Zarif wrote an op-ed assuring the world that Iran has been misunderstood…Instead of stoking violence, Zarif promised that Iran and its partners ‘labor to put out fires while the arsonists in our region grow more unhinged.’

“But the United Nations just released a new report that tells the opposite story. It tells the story of Iran as the arsonist. The report shows the Tehran regime not putting out fires but fanning the flames of conflict in the region.”

The evidence Haley unveiled included segments of missiles launched at Saudi Arabia from Houthi-controlled territory in Yemen. She said the missile parts bear markings showing they originate in Iran and that they have technical specifications that are specific to Iranian-manufactured weapons.

“The evidence is undeniable,” Haley told reporters in a hangar at Joint Base Anacostia-Bolling in Washington. “The weapons might as well have had ‘Made in Iran’ stickers all over it.”…

Haley said the recovered missile fragments came from a weapon that targeted the main airport in Riyadh, the capital of Saudi Arabia.

“Just imagine if this missile had been launched at Dulles Airport or JFK, or the airports in Paris, London, or Berlin,” Haley said. “That’s what Iran is actively supporting.”

Foreign Minister Javad Zarif responded to Haley’s presentation on Twitter, by comparing her to Colin Powell in the run-up to the Iraq war:

The difference, of course, is that Haley isn’t speculating about weapons Iran might have, which they could use, she’s standing in front of a 30-foot long Iranian missile that was already used. Is Zarif suggesting this was all fabricated? Where is his alternative explanation for the large short-range missile (and several other Iranian-made weapons) that appeared in this presentation?
