The opposition to Donald Trump has been dubbed ‘The Resistance’ by many participants. The Resistance had a big day Saturday when millions of people turned out for anti-Trump marches around the country. Most of the people involved behaved like adults, but there are already signs of trouble along the fringes of the protests.

On Friday, Gold Star families attending the Salute to Heroes Inaugural Gala, were greeted by protesters with spitting and name-calling. Ryan Manion, who lost her brother in Iraq, described the incident on her Facebook page:

Amy Hastings Looney and I were honored to spend the evening at the Salute to Heroes Inaugural Gala, where 38 Medal of Honor recipients attended. What we did not anticipate was the mobs of people who hid behind the veil of the word “protester”. We were an hour late to the event. First because we could not get around an angry mob in the street that was burning trash cans and smashing windows. When we finally got to the venue, a group of about 75 people separated us from the entrance. Amy and I stood there unsure of what to do. I finally said, let’s just walk. As we made our way through the crowd we were spit at and called some of the worst and most vile things I have ever heard come out of a person’s mouth. These people had such hatred in their eyes when they screamed at us.

Similar abuse continued when they left the event. Manion writes, “They hid behind the veil of posing as a “protester”, but they are nothing more then thugs.”

Fox News analyst Frank Luntz described being hit in the face with paint and glitter at his hotel Saturday:

I got red paint thrown on me and called a "fascist MF'er" by a protester here.

A CBS news radio correspondent was forced off the air Friday after protesters began throwing objects at her. This happened in the same area where a limousine was burned.

When a group of protesters lit a fire in the street Friday, a Trump supporter wearing a red “Make America Great Again” hat walked in an put it out with a fire extinguisher. As he calmly talked to the crowd one man with his face covered walked up and shook his hand while two men behind him pulled off his hat and punched him in the head:

Not all of the incidents of resistance rage took place in the streets. A man named Scott Koteskey boarded a plane leaving Baltimore Saturday. The plane was full of people who had flown in for the inauguration, both supporters and protesters. As Scott prepared to take his seat the woman in the seat next to him demanded to know his political outlook. He described the conversation that followed on his Facebook page:

“Did you come here to cheer or to protest?”

“I came here to celebrate democracy ma’am”…

I knew this was going to be a long flight at this point. She then proceeded with: (somewhat paraphrased as my memory allows)

Her: “You put a crazed man in charge of the nuclear codes! You should be ashamed!”

Me: ‘Well we’re all entitled to our opinions here ma’am.”

Her: “And I’m entitled to get drunk and puke in your lap! I’m going to throw up right in your lap! You make me sick! Don’t talk to me! Don’t look at me! Don’t you dare even put your arm on that rest. You disgust me! You should be ashamed of yourself! You put a maniac’s finger on the button” (assuming she’s means nukes). You are a bigot. You should get off this plane!”

Eventually, flight attendants intervened and the woman and the man with her were removed from the flight:

The Resistance is just getting started but it’s already spawning some unhinged behavior. This is somewhat ironic coming from people who claim to be trying to show us all that “love trumps hate.” If this continues, as it did with the Occupy movement, it will eventually become a significant part of the story.
