Third Trump Assassination Suspect 'Hiding in Fear For His Life'

By this point, you've probably heard of Vem Miller who was originally reported by a Riverside County, California sheriff as being "the third Trump attempted assassin" in the past couple of months. All of the alleged evidence presented thus far certainly made it sound as if that were the case, with the exception of Vem Miller himself, who continues to insist that he was simply misunderstood and the unwanted publicity he has received now has him "hiding out in fear for his life." Of course, like so many other aspects of this campaign, nothing about Mr. Miller seems to make any sense, least of all the reasons that authorities have given for releasing him on his own recognizance. The New York Post reports that Miller now lives in fear that some fellow Trump supporter may try to "take him out" in an effort to protect Trump.

Vem Miller, the Nevada filmmaker and Republican activist arrested on weapons charges outside Donald Trump’s Coachella Valley, California, rally, says he’s been forced to go into hiding and fears for his life after the local sheriff in Riverside County accused him of trying to kill the former president.

“It’s so easy to kill somebody or harm somebody you know, and that person might think he’s a hero in the moment, just due to ignorance of not knowing the facts,” Miller, 49, told The Post in a video chat interview.

“So I’ve got to reassess everything going forward, and look at it with new lenses.”

Just for a moment, let's take Vem Miller at his word that he's a devout fan of Donald Trump and was trying to provide the campaign with some useful security services. He was picked up outside of the Trump rally in Coachella Valley, California. He had no documentation suggesting that he was in any way associated with the campaign and nobody there had ever heard of him. He was found with a shotgun, a handgun, and a high-capacity magazine. He had no rational explanation for why he was there armed with such equipment. If he wasn't planning an assassination attempt, he was certainly putting on a very good act as someone who was planning to do so.

Finding someone armed to the teeth under those circumstances, particularly after two other attempts on Trump's life had been made in short order, how would that not be the first conclusion that the Sheriff would draw? But even that isn't the biggest mystery to be solved here. How was it that Miller was cut loose so quickly? The guy was walking around the scene of another appearance by Donald Trump effectively packing an arsenal. That sounds like somebody that Trump's security detail might want to keep an eye on at a minimum, don't you think?

Let's further keep in mind that Vem Miller was not cut loose entirely from the justice system over this event. He is currently free but he was released on $5,000 bond for weapons charges. Those are fairly serious charges in their own right. Shouldn't the Sheriff's office have a vested interest in keeping an eye on what he's up to? Yet Mr. Miller appears to have simply disappeared into the wild with the exception of occasional interviews that he grants to the press (who don't seem to have any trouble finding him). Even if the security detail has valid concerns that he might still be considering taking out Trump, the authorities don't seem to be terribly concerned about ensuring that he doesn't get too close.

Not all would-be assassins harbor a boiling hatred of their potential targets. Let's not forget the story behind John Hinkley Jr. He didn't hate Ronald Reagan. He didn't even seem to know that much about him. He was just trying to impress a young actress. Strange things happen on the campaign trail and this cycle continues to take the cake for strangeness.
