More odious gems from last night's debate have been cropping up all day for those of us reviewing the highlight reels. This one, for example, is a real beauty. Donald Trump correctly brought up Second Amendment issues when the moderators decided to risk touching on the subject. Someone had clearly prepared Harris to get hit with that subject given her California roots and that state's horrendous record on the rights of gun owners. She was prepared with a quip in response that her team thought was fairly clever except for the fact that it wasn't. She scolded Donald Trump and any of her critics by reminding them that both she and her running mate are gun owners themselves. She then upped the ante considerably, saying that she and Tim Walz "aren't taking anyone's guns away," and told us to "stop with the continuous lying." It sounds to me as if somebody needs to look in the mirror. (Axios)
Vice President Kamala Harris reminded voters that she is a gun owner during her debate with former President Trump — a fact that's likely to surprise many of her progressive followers.
It's the latest sign that Harris is focusing on appealing to moderates and Trump-wary conservatives in the run-up to Election Day. Harris has said previously that she owns a firearm, but she doesn't talk about it often on the campaign trail and has repeatedly advocated for stronger gun controls.
Harris said she and her running mate Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz "aren't taking anyone's guns away."
"This business about taking everybody's guns away, Tim Walz and I are both gun owners," Harris said. "So stop with the continuous lying."
This is yet another instance of Kamala Harris expecting everyone to ignore her own history which is well documented. Sadly, when it comes to much of the legacy media, they are happy to go along with her wishes, but the public should not be fooled. Harris has repeatedly come out in favor of so-called "red flag" laws that mandate gun confiscation in certain cases. She also has repeatedly supported universal background checks.
But in case that's not enough, here's something that the moderators could have fact-checked if they were actually interested. Kamala Harris went on MSNBC and said that she supported mandatory gun "buyback" programs. And this wasn't some dusty clip from ancient history. She said it on August 16th of this year. That was less than a month ago. So has her position changed that quickly or was she simply lying again?
Gun "buyback" programs have been in vogue with progressive gun-grabbers for some time now and we've covered some of these events here over the years. As far as I'm concerned, they are largely a waste of time because gangbangers don't show up and turn over the 9mm they used in their last hit to uniformed policemen in the hopes of bringing home an extra one hundred bucks. But if anyone wants to participate voluntarily and pocket the cash, be my guest.
The problem comes in when you add the word "mandatory" in front of "buyback program." If your choices are to either participate in the program or face prosecution for failing to do so, the program is no longer optional. When they come to arrest you for failing to participate they will take away your firearms anyway. That is gun confiscation by the government, plain and simple. And we once again have the receipts to prove that Harris supports the idea so she was lying yet again (continuously, to use her words).
Of course, this attitude is common among elite liberal politicians like Harris and Wallz. They don't want to see their gun rights taken away. After all, it's a dangerous world out there, largely thanks to them. They also insist on being able to be escorted everywhere they go by armed security guards. It's just the "little people" like you and I who can't be trusted to responsibly carry a firearm legally. If you happen to be the next one that gets jumped by an illegal migrant in the subway and your holster is empty, well... that's the way the cookie crumbles. As long as our betters in Washington our protected, everything else is simply collateral damage. So do us a favor, Kamala. If you have the nerve to claim that you are qualified for the job, be prepared to defend your actual record, not what you might wish it was at this moment. And stop with the continuous lying.
