Walz: We Owe it to America to Discuss Our Policies We Won't Show You

The Democrats continue to drag out their convention and milk it for every bit of earned media they can wring out of it. That process continued last night with the address from their newly minted Vice Presidential candidate, Tim Walz. The press was eating up the appearance of Walz's family in the audience, particularly his sobbing son who proudly declared, "That's my dad!" You can't really blame them because it was a rather touching moment and Walz's family is acting as if they still can't believe he's in this position. (Trust us... many of us can't believe it either.) Walz's speech was nothing for the history books, but there was at least one notable moment that even some liberal journalists couldn't overlook. Walz said that he and Kamala Harris "owe it to the American people" to detail the policies they plan to implement if elected. That's a rather remarkable statement from the man whose campaign website doesn't even have a policy page on it. Neither does Kamala's website.  (NY Post)

Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz vehemently declared in his first major address to voters Wednesday that he and Vice President Kamala Harris “owe it to the American people” to detail the policies they would enact — despite Harris still lacking a policy page on her campaign website.

“I think we owe it to the American people to tell them exactly what she’d do as president before we ask them for their votes,” Walz, 60, said in his address to the Democratic National Convention.

The pair has come under persistent Republican criticism for not clearly outlining what policies voters can expect under a Harris-Walz administration.

To his (partial) credit, Walz did manage to suggest four policy areas the new administration would focus on, though scant details were offered. He first said that Kamala will "cut your taxes" if you are in the middle class or a lower income group. That's rather odd considering that she delivered a campaign speech just this week promising to raise almost everyone's taxes. He then alluded to prescription drug prices, claiming that Harris will "take on Big Pharma." No details as to how she would accomplish this were offered.

The third item was the cost of housing. Walz assured the audience that Harris will "make it more affordable" to buy a home. Does she plan to do that by implementing socialist price control measures as she wants to do with groceries? Walz didn't say. Finally, he promised that Kamala Harris would "fight for your freedom to live the life that you want to lead." What does that even mean? Since we're left to speculate yet again, I assume he's talking about transgender identity or some other LGBTQ banner.

In some small way, we should probably be able to sympathize with Walz and Harris over their lack of public statements about their policy plans. They're stuck between a rock and a hard place. They really can't come out and promise to continue the policies of the Biden/Harris administration because virtually every poll shows that a significant majority of Americans view the results as a rolling disaster. But at the same time, they can't make bold announcements about sweeping changes to major policies because that would be an overt admission that Kamala Harris had been a willing partner in implementing those disastrous policies.

Harris has hinted at imposing more restrictions on illegal immigration, but where was her voice while more than ten million illegal aliens poured into the country under her watch as the border czar? It would be challenging for either of them to talk about creating more jobs, particularly now that the previous job creation estimates have been downgraded to disastrous levels. Talking about reducing prices for consumers rings hollow because of the record inflation levels set on Kamala's watch. They don't really have many good talking points to pitch. All the Harris/Walz ticket has going for them at the moment is liberally media hype. Fortunately for them, they're having that delivered by the truckload during the convention.
