When the liberal Labour Party swept into power in the UK elections recently, conservatives were gritting their teeth and waiting for what was anticipated to be a dramatic lurch to the left in the country's policies. But one of the first initiatives they announced is diametrically opposite of that approach. The Tories had previously imposed a ban on administering puberty-blocking drugs like Lupron to children as part of gender-transitioning treatment, but that initial ban is set to expire in September. Rather than reversing it, the Labour Party is currently holding hearings with a goal of extending the ban or even making it permanent. This admirable move should be applauded by those who were worried that Labour would drag the UK off of a cliff into liberal madness. (Telegraph)
A ban on puberty blockers could be made permanent as the Labour Party takes a harder stance on transgender issues, The Telegraph can reveal. Wes Streeting, the Health Secretary, intends to stop powerful hormone blockers being given to children via any means, subject to the outcome of a legal hearing.
Laws to ban the blockers being supplied to children by private or off-shore clinics were passed by Victoria Atkins, his predecessor, in emergency legislation ahead of the general election.
These are due to expire on Sep 3, and it is understood Labour will now seek to renew the ban with a view to making it permanent. It comes after criticism of the party for its stance on women’s rights.
We've covered the misuse of these drugs for purposes never approved by the FDA many times in the past. Seven different drugs are being prescribed by various doctors for children being treated for gender dysphoria. None of them were ever approved for that use. Only one of the drugs (Lupron) was approved for cases of precocious puberty, which is thankfully rare, but quite serious. The rest of them are cancer drugs that were approved to hinder the rapid growth of tumors in particularly dangerous cases of cancer. All of these drugs require strict medical supervision and testing when they are being administered, but so-called transgender "care" doctors in the United States have been handing them out like Halloween candy.
So why are these drugs being dispensed in such a non-approved fashion? One reason, much the same as the rest of the burgeoning transgender "care" industry, is that there is a lot of money to be made. AbbVie and Endo Pharmaceuticals currently dominate the U.S. market for puberty blockers. In 2020, AbbVie raked in more than three-quarter billion dollars just in sales of Lupron. It's unknown how much cash Endo Pharmaceuticals took in for puberty blockers, but it's clearly been highly lucrative for them as well. The same goes for all of the medical clinics and hospitals performing these Frankenstienian experiments on children, The transgender "care" industry is already worth billions of dollars.
UK Health Secretary Wes Streeting should be applauded for this move, but not all of the new, incoming Labour Party leaders are receiving such a warm reception. Anneliese Dodds has been appointed as the Minister for Women and Equalities. She is very much pro-trans and has previously been quoted as saying "There are many definitions of a woman." Perhaps ironically, her appointment is being criticized by Lesbian Labour. (The "voice of lesbians in the Labour Party.") They are claiming that Dodds "doesn't get it" and they are being backed by JK Rowling, Martina Navratilova, and other vocal opponents of pediatric transgender procedures and the redefinition of women in general.
Every time the balance of power in the UK shifts back and forth between the conservative Tories and the liberal Labour Party, there is inevitably some chaos. This time appears to be no different. However, the ongoing debate over transgender policies is producing some unexpected twists in current events. One has to wonder how the Brits and most of Europe have gotten so far ahead of the United States in these matters. Even the liberals across the pond have come to understand that what these supposed medical professionals in the United States are doing to gender-confused children is criminal in nature.
