To invoke a line from a brutal advertisement that ran last night about the Biden border crisis, "It just keeps happening." In the ad, an unseen woman warns of the number of women and girls who are assaulted, raped, or killed by Biden's illegal migrants, saying that Laken Riley "wasn't the first and, sadly, she won't be the last." That prediction was tragically prophetic. Before the debate had even begun, we learned that another young girl who is only fifteen years old had been brutally raped in upstate New York by an illegal immigrant from Turkey named Sakir Akkan. The details she provided to the police were heartbreaking and terrifying. The assault took place more than a month ago, but the public wasn't informed until this week. Akkan was not arrested until last week. The way the authorities are handling this arrest, however, is different than what we've seen in previous, similar cases and offers hope that at least some authorities are taking this situation seriously, even if Joe Biden and Alejandro Mayorkas are not. (NY Post)
A migrant from Turkey was charged with raping a 15-year-old girl in Albany — and questions are swirling about why it took cops more than a month to inform the public about the horrific assault.
Sakir Akkan, 21, is accused of attacking the teen inside his car on Arch Street in the state capital in the early hours of May 14 after she ran away from a local group home, court records obtained by The Post show.
Akkan — who wasn’t arrested until last week — allegedly told the girl, who was in the passenger seat of his Toyota Prius, that he’d pummel her if she didn’t get into the back, and threatened her with a metal pole, according to the filing.
Once she was inside the backseat, he allegedly took the girl’s clothes off and raped her, the filing charges.
The young girl is not being named for obvious reasons, but the police say that she fought back as best she could and had scratches on her body from the struggle. The victim seemed to have already been leading a troubled life in challenging situations. She was living in a group home and was reportedly "known to the police," though it's unclear if she had any sort of criminal record. Being out on the streets, she was likely more exposed to "stranger danger" than most children, leading to her horrible encounter with Sakir Akkan.
Like so many of these terrible stories that we've heard already, Akkan was arrested last November after illegally crossing into the country near San Diego. He claimed to be trying to get to Philadelphia where he supposedly had relatives, but provided no names or addresses. He was released on "parole" two days later due to a lack of space to hold him, with an order to appear in immigration court in Philadelphia in the future. Instead, he somehow wound up in Albany, New York, living at the taxpayers' expense in a migrant shelter.
It's worth noting that this horror show took place near where I grew up. This isn't New York City that we're talking about, with all of the problems we've been covering here over recent years. Albany is the state capital and it's a much smaller city with a population of just 100,000 and comparatively low crime rates. This sort of thing isn't supposed to be happening. And in the case of Sakir Akkan, it wouldn't be happening were it not for Joe Biden's open border policies.
While there is no "good news" to be found in this story (obviously), it is somewhat encouraging to see that the officials in Albany are doing their level best to throw the book at Akkan. He's been charged with First Degree Rape of a minor and is being held on $25,000 cash bail, a $50,000 bond or a partial bond of $75,000. But his attorney said that he won't even be able to attempt to post bail because ICE has filed an immigration detainer against him. And for once, the detainer is being honored so the alleged rapist will be cooling his heels behind bars until his trial begins. In New York, First Degree Rape is a class B felony carrying a sentence of up to 25 years in prison with a mandatory minimum of five years. When the victim is a minor, sentencing enhancements may be applied. Nothing can undo the damage that this monster caused to this young girl's life, of course, but there is at least a chance that Akkan will face something resembling an appropriate level of justice. And that will be one less of Biden's criminal illegal migrants that we'll have to worry about for the foreseeable future.
