The pro-Hamas protests in New York City have long since gone off the rails and become completely out of control. But one of the latest incidents to come to light demonstrates how these are no longer "protests" in the traditional sense of the word. The antisemitic agitators are in full riot mode and need to be put down harshly. This week, protesters from New York University swarmed and attacked NYPD Assistant Chief James McCarthy and some of his officers, chasing them and threatening them at the NYU Catholic Center in response to one violent demonstrator being arrested. This behavior is completely unacceptable and no decent person should support it. (NY Post)
Out of control New York University protesters swarmed and berated an NYPD chief and his officers – calling them “f–king fascists” – after they cuffed one of the demonstrators at an anti-Israel rally, wild new video shows.
The viral video, shared on X, shows NYPD Assistant Chief James McCarthy and his officers being chased and surrounded by protestors on Monday night while trying to get inside the NYU Catholic Center after arresting one of them.
“F–k you! F–k you, pigs,” the crowd could be heard shouting as they harassed the officers and demanded they release the woman in custody.
Here's the video of the attack as posted on Twitter.

There was a lot more than yelling or "free speech" going on. As the NYPD worked to clear the illegally erected encampment, rioters pelted the police officers with bottles. One officer was hit on the head with a chair. Assaulting a police officer is a crime, but the cops were too badly outnumbered to do much about it at the moment.
Just as we've seen in other blue cities, municipal officials have brought this upon themselves. They have been far too timid in dealing with the rioters, leaving the young people involved with the impression that they can get away with almost anything. You rarely saw anything like this back when Rudy Giuliani was running the city. If there was any sort of illegal uprising, he was quick to send in the NYPD with riot gear and batons.
That's precisely what is needed today. Any physical attack on the police should be met with a swift and harsh response. It makes no difference what "cause" the rioters are supposedly speaking out about. There are plenty of empty cells available at Rikers Island thanks to New York's soft-on-crime administration. The NYPD has thousands of officers. They should be redeployed to the area of the protests wearing full riot gear, followed by a parade of paddy wagons.
Any demonstrators who do not immediately comply should be beaten down as an example to the rest and they should all be hauled off to cells. Any who were seen physically attacking the police should be held over until trial and then locked up for quite a few years. That would send a message to the rest of them and allow for the restoration of normal order and safety in the streets. The fact that these idiots are out there chanting for the destruction of Israel and attacks on Jewish students is more than sufficient justification for an appropriately harsh response. Those who engage in "free speech" by employing violence will clearly only understand violence in return.
