Bowman: Real Jews Support a Ceasefire, You know

Bowman.House.Gov

The Squad held a rally Monday night with a group of Hamas supporters where they continued to demand a ceasefire in Gaza. The gang was all there airing their usual grievances, but one of the most acrimonious was Congressman Jamaal “Fire Alarm” Bowman. He was addressing a group calling itself “Rabbis for Ceasefire,” and they were not simply demanding peace. Bowman began lecturing everyone about “what it actually means to be Jewish.” Bowman, who is not Jewish, declared that he was representing “the way in which God wants us to live with each other.” He also claimed that the government of Israel does not represent the Jewish people. It was all simply surreal, but this is life in the 21st century, I suppose. (Free Beacon)

Rep. Jamaal Bowman (D., N.Y.) said on Monday night that supporting a ceasefire is “what it actually means to be Jewish.”

“I’ve heard what was said here this evening before,” he said at a rally with the group Rabbis for Ceasefire, “that, by me calling for a ceasefire with my colleagues and centering humanity, I am uplifting deeply what it actually means to be Jewish because I’m centering the way in which God wants us to live with each other, so I feel grateful to be standing here.”

He also mourned “4,000 children and counting” who had “their lives taken away by a fascist, right-wing, destructive government in Israel.”

We should all have questions about this group claiming to be “Rabbis for Ceasefire.” It was hastily assembled for the obvious purpose of generating press releases and headlines. But a closer examination shows that we’re talking about a total of forty rabbis here, assuming that’s what they actually are. Has anyone taken the time to check all of their names and see if they are actually associated with legitimate, functional synagogues? Or are some of them people who simply woke up one morning and decided, ‘Well, I’m a rabbi now?’

To be clear, it’s not that the idea of peace is undesirable or fundamentally contrary to the Jewish faith. Nearly everyone except Hamas and a few maniacal world leaders would prefer peace over war whenever and wherever possible. But we can’t simply pretend there was peace in Israel until October 7. There wasn’t. Hamas has been attacking Israel since its inception in what would be considered acts of war anyplace else in the world. And though the media rarely reports on it, they continue to fire missiles into Israel every single day. This is a war and Israel is treating it as such.

Bowman went on to say “We cannot bomb our way to peace.” He accused America of having “a history of bombing countries and people” as well as suggesting that Washington is “corrupted by violence.” I’m assuming he would have preferred that we not take out the Islamic terrorists after 9/11. Does Jamaal Bowman think the world would be a better place if we’d called a ceasefire with the Nazis and let Hitler continue his plot to take over the world? I’m not sure I really want to know the answer to that question.

If Israel declared a ceasefire today and withdrew all of its troops from Gaza, do these people actually believe that Hamas would stop the attacks? Oh, they might for a week or two just to garner some better headlines in the international press. And they would use their time to rearm and rebuild the tunnels that Israel has destroyed, diverting even more aid and resources from the Palestinian people to do so. And then they would be back to business as usual.

The leaders of Hamas have come out publicly and stated that they plan to keep attacking Israel “again and again” until the Jewish state is destroyed. They’re not even trying to hide it. And yet we have elected members of Congress appearing at rallies and demanding a ceasefire which is precisely what Hamas wants. That’s what Bowman, Tlaib, and the rest of the Squad actually want. They are not rallying for peace. They are rallying for the rescue and resurrection of Hamas so they can continue their march “from the river to the sea.” Fortunately, they represent a very tiny minority of people in this country. They should be condemned and then ignored.
