I saw this story making the rounds on CNN over the weekend and now it’s even shown up in the New York Post. The media’s latest effort to scare voters away from voting for Donald Trump next year centers on Trump’s plans to begin moving the millions of illegal aliens that Joe Biden allowed into the country back to their homelands as rapidly as possible. The plan would involve deputizing local police and National Guard troops to assist ICE in tracking down and detaining all of the migrants. He’s also proposing large “camps” where they could be housed while awaiting hearings and deportation. In other words, he’s talking about a return to his immigration policies that worked so well during his first term. If this is intended to “scare” us, perhaps he could next frighten me by offering me a free lifetime supply of gin.

Former President Donald Trump is plotting an intense crackdown on immigration if he is elected to a second term next year — including rounding up undocumented immigrants and holding them in large detention camps as they wait to be expelled from the country, according to a report.

The leading contender for the 2024 Republican presidential nomination is aiming to deport millions of people each year, several advisors told The New York Times.

The plan would not only target the nearly 4 million migrants that have crossed the US border since President Biden took office in 2021, but would include those that have been settled in the country for decades.

CNN was describing this over the weekend as if it were some sort of cruel, sadistic plot. What Trump is actually talking about is enforcing the laws that Joe Biden refused to enforce. Unfortunately, the magnitude of the problem has grown so much that some novel approaches may be required. Establishing “camps” always carries a negative connotation because it summons up images of the internment camps that Japanese Americans were sent to during World War 2. But such camps wouldn’t be required if Biden hadn’t held the door open for more than six million unknown people to arrive from all over the world in such a short period of time.

Would Trump’s proposed camps really be any different than all of the migrant camps that Democrats have been setting up all over the country to deal with this problem? The liberal press is only howling because it’s the Bad Orange Man talking about doing it. The only real difference would be the lack of an exit door. Now that I think about it, perhaps Trump could arrange for federal funding to take over some of the existing migrant camps and just install locks on them.

Trump is also proposing to bring back a ban on the entry of people from certain Muslim-majority countries and develop guidelines to speed up the deportation process. These are steps that might not have been required (or at least not as urgently) had Joe Biden not completely abandoned our borders. It would take years to accomplish, but the very first step will have to be to seal the southern border as completely as possible by completing the wall and applying pressure on Mexico to do more from their side. These are all areas where Trump would come to the job with plenty of experience and be able to hit the ground running.

The Biden campaign immediately released a statement calling the proposed policies “cruel” and “racist.” They said the plans are “meant to stoke fear and divide us, betting a scared nation is how he wins this election.” Allow me to offer a news flash to Team Biden. Plenty of people are already scared because of the dangerous mess that Biden has created. So if that’s how Donald Trump is “betting,” lots of us are ready to double down on that wager.

What Donald Trump is threatening to do is his job, assuming he wins the nomination and the general election next fall. This is what some of us have been screaming from the rooftops for Joe Biden to do for the past three years. And given the current conditions in many cities, particularly New York and Chicago, he may wind up getting a lot more support than most of the liberal media anticipates. If some other Republican somehow winds up winning the nomination, they need to propose the exact same thing. This “scare tactic” could backfire very bigly.
