The Poster Boy For the Death of San Francisco

We’ve known for some time now that the once beautiful city of San Francisco has been on a steep, downward slide. At this point, significant portions of the city are effectively boarded up, with businesses permanently closing and homeless drug addicts blocking the sidewalks. Over at PJ Media, Rick Moran has identified a person who may be the perfect poster child for the massive decay of the City by the Bay. His name is Joseph Adam Moore and he is a homeless person who is involved with illegal drug dealing, which is sadly nothing unusual these days. But the unique thing about Moore is the location he chose. He has set up shop directly across from a Catholic elementary school. And he advertises his presence with large cardboard signs promising “Meth for stolen items” and “Free fentanyl for new users.” To put some icing on this already nauseating cake, Mr. Moore is a convicted pedophile.

In San Francisco, they do things a little differently. I’d say the people there march to a different drummer but that would imply that residents are sober enough to keep time.

We all know that San Francisco has a terrible, awful, horrible, homeless problem with homeless people sleeping everywhere. One homeless man set up camp across from a Catholic grade school. It would have been a curiosity except for the signs he hung outside of his tent.

“Free fentanyl 4 new users” and “Meth for stolen items.”

As they say, a picture is worth a thousand words. And in the case of this one from the San Francisco Examiner, most of them are probably expletives.

Back during a time of “normalcy” that now seems so long ago that we can barely remember it, this sort of thing would never have happened. Or if it did, the loser who was doing it would have been hauled off to jail as soon as he was noticed, likely with a few knocks to the head for his trouble. But now it’s 2023 and at least in San Francisco, this is just another day at the circus.

As a reasonable, decent person, you’re probably wondering how it is that nobody has called the cops on this cretin by now. But they have. The cops know that Moore is there and they know what he’s doing. The homeless man has even given interviews to local media outlets. But the cops claim their hands are tied and there’s not much they can do about it. They’ve arrested him a couple of times for illegal camping, but he’s immediately released and goes back to doing his thing.

Joseph Adam Moore was previously convicted of raping a 12 year old girl and was accused of sex with a 15 year old within a month of being released. He’s been living across from the school for nearly two years now, despite being on a Megan’s Law list of offenders who have been convicted of lewd behavior with children under the age of 14. He was apparently not listed as a “serious” offender, so he is exempt from the rule against such people being within 2,000 feet of a school.

As for the drugs, he insists that he does indeed give them away for free and doesn’t do drugs himself. He also claims to hand out blankets and other supplies that he receives to other homeless people in the area. The cops can’t do anything about that either because the city and the state effectively decriminalized all drug usage, even in public. San Francisco hasn’t managed to eliminate the police entirely, but they have made it nearly impossible for the cops to combat any but the worst, most violent offenses. Joseph Moore doesn’t currently fit into that category (that we know of), so he remains free as a bird.

None of this seems like it could even be possible. It’s like a scene out of a Cheech and Chong movie, except with far worse people and more danger to children. And yet it’s reality. This is how far our society has fallen and it’s growing depressingly hard to see how we ever climb back out of this hole.
