Delaware U.S. Attorney David Weiss is one of the figures at the center of the investigation into the attempts (or lack thereof) to prosecute Hunter Biden on a variety of charges including tax evasion and federal gun charges. He has told stories that conflict with both the Attorney General and various whistleblowers from both the IRS and the FBI who have come forward recently. As such, Congressman Jim Jordan has been trying to get him to come in and testify under oath before the House Judiciary Committee in a closed-door interview and to do so quickly. This week the Department of Justice sent a letter to Jordan offering to make Weiss available but said he would testify in a public hearing, and not until this fall. This is setting up yet another battle between the House GOP and the Department of Justice in Jordan’s battle to expose the corruption inside Biden Inc. and the weaponization and politicization of the DoJ and the intel community. The lead prosecutor in the case against President Joe Biden’s son Hunter says he is willing to testify publicly this fall, setting up a clash with House Republicans who have demanded he come in soon for a closed-door interview.

In a two-page letter to Rep. Jim Jordan on Monday, the Justice Department offered to make U.S. Attorney David Weiss of Delaware available before the House Judiciary Committee for a public hearing after the August break as Republicans continue to escalate their ongoing investigation into his handling of the probe into Hunter Biden.

“The Department believes it is strongly in the public interest for the American people and for Congress to hear directly from U.S. Attorney Weiss on these assertions and questions about his authority at a public hearing,” Assistant Attorney General Carlos Uriarte wrote to Jordan.

It’s worth noting yet again the almost dismissive tone that the Associated Press takes (along with the rest of the legacy media) when they bother covering this story. They describe how “Republicans continue to escalate their ongoing investigation.” They also paint a picture of the DoJ as justified in not allowing Weiss to testify “during an ongoing investigation” but he can be made available after Hunter Biden is sentenced.

That’s quite convenient, isn’t it? The “ongoing investigation” ploy is precisely the tactic that the DoJ has been using to stonewall the investigation. And if the plea deal goes through, all other questions about the First Son’s activities will basically be taken off the table. If the judge rejects the plea deal, then the DoJ can go back to stonewalling using the same excuse.

The one element of this entire exchange that muddies the waters is the fact that Jordan has been calling Weiss in to testify behind closed doors. Ostensibly, that was supposed to offer a way around the “ongoing investigation” issue. But it’s not going to satisfy the public. First of all, all of the evidence in the Hunter Biden case has already been presented and a plea deal has been put on the table, such as it is. The “investigation” portion is over and we’re just waiting for the result. And just for the record, that judge needs to reject that plea deal and force the prosecutors to bring some real charges or table the matter until the House completes its investigations. the material they are uncovering should be absolutely relevant to the case.

With that in mind, it shouldn’t be an issue to bring Weiss in immediately and have him testify in public while under oath. For that matter, let’s drag Merrick Garland in there and have him do the same, just as the whistleblowers have already done. Their stories don’t match, which means somebody is lying and we need to find out who.

Hopefully, a majority of the public will be able to see through all of these games. The idea that Hunter Biden was not given extraordinarily gentle treatment and protection (along with the rest of the Biden family) is preposterous. We’ve been asking Garland for months to offer one other example where an investigation into someone who failed to pay taxes on millions of dollars dragged on for more than five years until the statute of limitations expired. There are no such examples. We’ve wanted to see another case where someone facing a serious federal gun charge was offered what works out to be a dismissal if he agrees to stay out of trouble for a couple of years. Most anyone else would have been doing jail time.

These people are making a joke out of our system of justice and running the country like a banana republic. James Comer and Jim Jordan are trying to pull back the curtains and expose this travesty for what it is. I wish them the best, but the people in Biden’s orbit will not agree to any sort of transparency unless they are dragged kicking and screaming into the sunlight.
