Another female college swimmer comes out of the shadows

For quite some time now, Riley Gaines has been the only female NCAA swimmer (see correction below: competing for Kentucky) who was willing to speak out about the unfairness of allowing male swimmer Lia Thomas to compete against the actual women in the pool. When I recently watched Matt Walsh’s amazing documentary, “What is a Woman“, I noticed that there was another swimmer from the team being interviewed. The swimmer wasn’t identified and was only shown in silhouette. But she didn’t sound like Gaines, and I was curious who she might be. Now she has come forward to tell her story and her name is Paula Scanlan. Her story is similar to that of Gaines, but she offers new details into how the university’s athletic department threatened and silenced all of the students to keep them from airing their protests over Thomas to the press. A college teammate of transgender swimmer Lia Thomas is speaking out after anonymously participating in the Daily Wire’s 2022 documentary “What Is a Woman.”

Paula Scanlan, who competed on the University of Pennsylvania women’s swimming team during the 2018-19 and 2021-22 seasons, spoke with Daily Wire host Matt Walsh in a video posted to social media Monday night, saying she is ready to join former college swimmer Riley Gaines in “fighting for women and girls across the country.”

Scanlan told Walsh that the UPenn athletic department informed the team in a meeting that Thomas’ spot on the women’s team was “non-negotiable” and that they would regret it if they spoke to the media.

During the time that Lia Thomas was competing, some people sought to place the blame for the situation directly on him. To a certain extent, that’s valid since he was obviously gaming the system. But in reality, Thomas was more of a symptom than anything else. He was the beneficiary of a broken system inside of the school and the NCAA at large which had been captured by the woke brigade and convinced to abandon basic science in the name of politics.

The effect on Gaines, Scanlan, and other female swimmers was clearly disastrous. Scanlan tells of the coaching staff warning the rest of the swimmers that if they complained about Thomas to the press, “your future job is on the line.” So Paula Scanlan and most of the others kept quiet. But now she has decided that she can’t remain silent, so her future is once again on the line. The woke mob will be coming for her with a vengeance, just as they’ve done with Gaines.

Perhaps this is a rare hopeful sign for the future. With more and more people coming out and speaking truth to the liberal trans power structure, others may find the courage to do so as well. When you look at the millions and millions of people who have now viewed Matt Walsh’s movie and read his books, it’s hard not to get a sense that people are increasingly ready to call out craziness when they see it.

In a way, we may be seeing a reality-based version of what the LGBTQ+ (whatever) crowd insists is the reality for trans people. We are regularly assured that there is some sort of “trans genocide” going on and that many people in that community are afraid to speak up. But in reality, the opposite is true. There is no trans genocide and the people who are afraid to speak out are the sane ones who still grasp fundamental biological science, but they go along with the woke mob for fear of being labeled as a “transphobe” or whatever we’re supposed to be calling it this week.

It’s time to shed the artificial stigma. Call me whatever you like, but I refuse to support the genital mutilation of children and the eradication of girls’ and women’s sports in this country. If you want to see this country get back on track, it’s time to refuse to let the lunatics run the asylum. This isn’t a left vs. right issue, or at least it shouldn’t be. It’s a question of sanity vs. insanity. Choose the sane side.
