The latest AP-NORC polling numbers were released last night and the news was not great for President Joe Biden. That didn’t stop the Associated Press from trying to soften the blow and spin things in Uncle Joe’s favor, however. Their headline described how Biden’s approval rating had “dipped slightly” from the previous month. But that seems like a bit of a stretch. The same poll put Biden at 45% in February, which isn’t great, but it was still within five points of the halfway mark. This month he rang up 38%. That’s a seven-point drop in a single month, only two points higher than his lowest rating so far, which is a pretty significant “dip.” And those are not the sort of approval numbers you want to haul into a reelection bid announcement.

Approval of President Joe Biden has dipped slightly since a month ago, nearing the lowest point of his presidency as his administration tries to project a sense of stability while confronting a pair of bank failures and inflation that remains stubbornly high.

That’s according to a new poll by The Associated Press-NORC Center for Public Affairs Research, which shows there have been modest fluctuations in support for Biden over the past several months. The president notched an approval rating of 38% in the new poll, after 45% said they approved in February and 41% in January. His ratings hit their lowest point of his presidency last July, at 36%, as the full weight of rising gasoline, food and other costs began to hit U.S. households.

On his handling of the economy, Biden scored 31 percent. That clearly represents the bare minimum number of die-hard Democrats who will give a thumbs up to any member of their own party, no matter how badly things are going. Broken down along party lines, just 63% of Democrats approved of Biden’s handling of the economy, meaning that nearly 40 percent of his own party won’t back him in those terms.

Most of the finger-pointing involves issues related to the economy and there is clearly plenty to complain about there. But there is also a lot more going on. America’s foreign policy under Joe Biden has been nothing short of disastrous, with our allies growing skittish and our adversaries joining forces to oppose us. We’ve been dragged into a proxy war that shows no sign of ending any time soon and the increasing possibility of one or more hot wars to follow.

Biden is even underwater on his handling of issues related to the climate. And why wouldn’t he be? Why is so much money and energy being focused on supposed climate concerns when we have so many other wolves at the gates? Probably half of the people in the country know someone who has been impacted by the flood of fentanyl coming into the United States and all but the wealthiest have felt the impact of the inflation rates that Biden promised were “transitory” in the form of higher prices.

And then there’s the fact that the country is in the hands of someone who clearly no longer appears to be in full control of his mental faculties most of the time. I’m frankly shocked that you can even find a third of the people in the country expressing approval or any sort of confidence in him.
