How a fundraiser for J6 prisoners was canceled

It was certainly an interesting idea, even if it was destined to draw the outrage of the political left and the media outlets that support them. In Baltimore, Maryland, the group Republican Women of Baltimore County had planned a fundraiser at the Charles Village Pub and Patio. The stated purpose of the event was to raise money to support imprisoned January 6 protesters and it promised to include prominent speakers and members of some of the J6 prisoners’ families. The event was scheduled to take place yesterday. But on Monday, only one day before the fundraiser was slated to go on, it was abruptly canceled. How do you suppose that happened? (CBS Baltimore)

A Towson pub announced Monday it will no longer host a Republican group’s fundraiser to support those imprisoned on charges related to the January 6 Capitol riot.

Charles Village Pub and Patio, colloquially known as CVP, would have been the venue for the “Jan 6th Political Prisoner Fundraiser” hosted by the Republican Women of Baltimore County.

“Come join us for an evening of speakers, silent auctions and exciting offerings,” read a flyer for the Feb. 7 event, which noted tickets are $20 per person. “J6 family members will be joining us.”

The intended recipient of any funds that would have been raised was “The Patriot Freedom Project.” They’ve been in operation for quite a while now, seeking to raise money for legal costs and other expenses incurred by participants in the January 6, 2021 rally and riot on Capitol Hill. The group had reportedly raised more than $900,000 by February of last year, but questions were raised about the group’s transparency in terms of how the money was being spent and disbursed.

How the event was scrapped was easy to ascertain. The usual pattern that emerges whenever the activists on the left set their hair on fire unfolded. Local Twitter accounts began demanding the event be canceled and called on followers to “bombard” the venue with bad reviews online. Protests were organized and the activists threatened to block all access to the pub. In other words, the usual traffickers of outrage were once again outraged.

The day before the scheduled event, the owners of the Charles Village Pub and Patio announced that they would decline to host the event. They said the decision was made due to “the overall feedback and for the safety of all staff & patrons.” But as usual, that wasn’t enough for the mob. It was later learned that the Republican Women of Baltimore County also had an event they planned to hold at the CVP later this month where a documentary movie about January 6th was scheduled to be screened. CVP then canceled that event as well.

We’ve been covering the many trials of J6 participants here for more than a year. As I have consistently maintained, any of the people at the Capitol Building that day who damaged property (doors, windows, etc.), stole any government property from inside the building or physically assaulted law enforcement officers were engaged in rioting. Those people need to be held accountable for their actions even if the Justice Department under the current administration shows virtually no interest in holding other rioters with a different political agenda to account. That doesn’t excuse the actions of people whose own ideological beliefs may be more in tune with your own.

The rest of the people who essentially just followed the initial wave inside and walked around were guilty of little more than trespassing. Yes, there is a federal law against being inside the Capitol (which is supposed to belong to the people) without permission, but the punishment should fit the crime. Many of these people have been held behind bars for months on end while awaiting trial and have then been given disproportionally harsh prison sentences. If people want to help them or their families with their expenses during this era of obviously politically biased persecution, they do not need to be “canceled.” They aren’t breaking any laws by raising money for such purposes. But this is apparently the America we live in today. If you don’t mouth the words of the accepted media and progressive narrative, your government can lock you up for significant periods of time for what amount to little more than thought crimes. We have reached a sad juncture, and a lot of people need to be ready to step up and get out to the ballot box if we have any hope of turning this ship around.
