Hunter Biden's allies are intimidating witnesses

As Karen recently reported, the allies of the Biden clan have been meeting to come up with ways to deflect criticism of the family and forestall potential criminal investigations into Hunter Biden’s extensive deals in China and Ukraine. But according to some new reporting from the New York Post, there is a lot more going on than just a public relations push. Someone told the Washington Post about a recent meeting in California where friends and associates of the Biden family discussed a “more aggressive” approach to keep the heat off of the Bidens. This includes threats of potential lawsuits against witnesses who are expected to be called to testify, likely over claims of defamation. And, of course, they will likely be working the social media circuit to let people know that anyone saying bad things about the Bidens may be in for a dose of cancel culture.

Just when you thought our politics could not get more poisonous, a recent meeting in California suggests the past is mere prelude. The Washington Post, which revealed the powwow, described it as Biden family “allies” planning an offensive to blunt any investigation into the Bidens’ alleged multimillion-dollar influence-peddling schemes.

Republicans will see it more like the gathering of the Legion of (Democratic) Doom. Some of the most controversial political operatives are involved in the all-hands-on-deck effort to protect the Bidens.

The California meeting’s host was none other than Hunter Biden’s friend, agent and lawyer Kevin Morris. After Hunter was placed under investigation for, among other possible charges, tax evasion, Morris reportedly paid off as much as $2.8 million in back taxes for Hunter.

Kevin Morris’ “legion of doom” is reportedly talking about defamation lawsuits against Fox News in general and Tucker Carlson in particular. Carlson recently produced a two-part documentary called Biden Inc. which detailed all of these shady enterprises to a depth I’d not seen before. He’s been covering the Hunter Biden stories with gusto for years now. Of course, the odds of either Tucker or the cable news giant actually being “intimidated” by talk of a lawsuit are laughably low.

But the Morris crew is talking about going after more people than just Fox News hosts. They have been engaged in “extensive research” regarding other likely witnesses including Hunter’s former business partner Tony Bobulinski and John Paul Mac Isaac, the former owner of the computer repair shop where Hunter abandoned the “Laptop from Hell.”

Jonathan Turley describes Morris’ plan as the equivalent of “a declaration of all-out war on potential witnesses.” Turley also raises a pertinent question about how the Washington Post managed to gain such unfiltered access to information about the California meeting and the plans being hatched there. A “secret campaign” to thwart an investigation isn’t very “secret” if it shows up on the front page of the WaPo.

But that’s really no mystery at all. These people all want the witnesses to know they are coming. They want to scare them into backing down before things reach the stage of filing lawsuits. Also, by publicizing the plot, they are getting the names of all the targets out in the open so the cancel culture warriors can begin taking preemptive shots at them.

Could this really work? Could the investigation into Hunter and Joe Biden’s former foreign business dealings actually be derailed and be done in such an open and public way? I personally doubt it. I think there is too much water that’s already passed under this bridge to turn back now and the Republicans in charge of the applicable committees in the House will have no incentive to end their investigatory work.

Bobulinski has already given dozens of lengthy interviews and provided a ream of documents to back up his story about his business dealings with Hunter Biden and “the Big Guy.” John Paul Mac Isaac might be another story, but he’s done plenty of talking himself. He would be hard-pressed to suddenly go silent in the face of a congressional subpoena. But if the investigation is somehow derailed, you will be witnessing a tragically corrupt system at its absolute worst.
