After Stacey Abrams lost her 2018 bid to be the next Governor of Georgia (not that she admitted the loss until recently), she founded a political action committee named Fair Fight PAC that was intended to “combat voter suppression” in the Peach State, which she blamed for her loss or unacknowledged victory, depending on which day you asked her. Fair Fight PAC has since raked in a considerable flow of cash from liberals around the nation who sympathized with her unfair treatment at the hands of the corrupt Republicans in Georgia or whatever. But where has all of that money been going? A recent investigation by Fox News dug into some of the PAC’s financial disclosure statements and came up with some very curious results.
It turns out that a significant amount of that money has gone into the pockets of friends and family members of the group’s director, Andre Fields, who is himself a long-time aide to Abrams as well as a “close confidant.” Sadly, this happens all too often in the world of political campaign donations, and the laws preventing such activities are weak and poorly enforced at best. But these payments are particularly troubling. Some of the people who have been cashing in appear to have virtually no applicable experience for these positions and most have maintained other full-time jobs while receiving the payments.
A group launched by Georgia Democratic gubernatorial nominee Stacey Abrams is doling out thousands in payments to its director’s family and friends who do not appear to have political experience and maintain other full-time jobs, records reviewed by Fox News Digital show.
The Abrams-founded Fair Fight PAC is funneling the cash to individuals close to her longtime aide Andre Fields, who acts as the PAC’s political director. When reached for comment, a Fair Fight spokesperson said they are launching an internal investigation into the matter.
“Fair Fight strives to operate with the utmost integrity, as is core to our values,” the spokesperson told Fox News Digital. “We take these matters very seriously and have initiated a comprehensive investigation. Personnel will remain on leave pending the outcome.”
The reaction from a spokesperson for Fair Fight PAC likely offers some indication of what’s going on here. Rather than denying any improprieties and defending the credentials of the recipients of these payments, they said that the recipients of these payments will “remain on leave” pending the outcome of a thorough and “comprehensive investigation.”
This response really should qualify Abrams and her crew for a nomination in the 2022 Captain Louis Renault Awards. “I’m shocked, shocked, to find that nepotism and cronyism are going on in here.” And they’ll get right to the bottom of it, I’m sure.
So how bad is it? One of the larger cash recipients is Andre Fields’ own sister, Darius Faulk. She has cashed in to the tune of more than $120,000 in PAC money, allegedly for “training consultant services” just in the past fourteen months. That’s a pretty fair haul for anyone, particularly in the current economic conditions.
The problem is that Faulk has spent her career as a collegiate women’s basketball coach. And it appears that she still holds that position on a full-time basis. Where is she finding the time to provide that much “training” to people involved in the PAC? And exactly what abilities does this training entail? Do the PAC workers need to brush up on their layup skills?
Two other beneficiaries of these wonderful job opportunities were Asa Fludd and Cruz Alvarado, both listed as “close confidants” of Fields. Both were described as having similarly provided “training consulting” services to Fair Fight PAC. Fludd’s resume shows no experience in the political world, though she has provided computer systems training in her non-PAC career. Alvarado works in “the event industry.” Neither have ever held a position with any other PAC or political organization.
The spokesperson for the PAC is acting as if all of this information is taking the organization totally by surprise. But how is that possible? Are we expected to believe that Andre Fields, one of Stacey Abrams’ closest aides, was taken totally by surprise and left completely gobsmacked to learn that his own sister had been working for his PAC for the past year or more? The same question applies to the two “close confidants” of Fields.
Pull the other one. It’s got bells on it. How many stories similar to this have we heard over the years? Someone sets up a politically favored organization that draws the immediate sympathy (and financial support) of wealthy liberal donors around the nation. Then, before very long, the money starts disappearing into various pockets where it does absolutely nothing to support the actual cause that it was ostensibly established to support. If you’re having flashbacks to Patrisse Cullors and Black Lives Matter about now, you’re clearly not alone.
