Susan Sarandon joins the anti-cop army

You may find yourself wondering how anyone could actually be offended by a funeral for a slain police officer, but that’s apparently now a thing that happens in the United States. The two police funerals in New York City this week have drawn public condemnation from enraged leftists on social media, and now the “movement” is attracting celebrity support from Hollywood. Longtime liberal agitator and movie star Susan Sarandon has decided to toss her support to those complaining about the funerals. On her Twitter account, Sarandon opted to share a post comparing the silent gathering of mourning law enforcement officers to “fascism.” The tweet she shared also tossed in a hashtag supporting the “abolish the police” movement for good measure. Actress Susan Sarandon shared a Twitter post comparing police gathered at the funeral of slain NYPD Detective Jason Rivera to fascists — in the latest example of anti-cop vitriol.

The “Thelma & Louise” star posted an image that showed a tweet by writer and podcaster Danny Haiphong of a photo of the massive turnout of officers in Manhattan last week.

“I’m gonna tell my kids this is what fascism looks like,” the original tweet said.

Scrolling down through the replies to that tweet you will see quite a few people (seemingly including some who are otherwise Sarandon’s supporters) who were aghast at her use of that image and the suggestion that police “aren’t needed.” But there were also more than a few who immediately joined her call to ask why we need any police at all. It’s disheartening, but there is still obviously a lot of anti-police sentiment remaining on the left.

Everyone is expected to look past the obvious hypocrisy on display here. Sarandon still spends plenty of time in and around Hollywood, nestled in the city of Los Angeles where rising crime rates are making life almost untenable for many. You can rest assured that she has armed security guards protecting her when she ventures out in public and others that undoubtedly guard her lavish homes. But the police are just terrible, right? Even when they are mourning one of the victims of a cowardly ambush of law enforcement personnel.

Seeing Sarandon sign on for this “movement” isn’t really a surprise, of course. She has been showing up for years at every leftist protest that comes down the pike. She was arrested in 2018 during a protest targeting Donald Trump for… well… being Donald Trump, apparently. (Which was somewhat ironic given that the actress probably helped elect Trump by supporting and voting for Jill Stein instead of Hillary Clinton.)

Sarandon teamed up with fellow celebrity Mark Ruffalo to protest the Keystone XL pipeline in 2016. She was a regular participant in efforts to prevent her country from gaining energy independence from OPEC. Her brilliant solution to that “problem” was to encourage everyone to literally empty their bank accounts of cash to punish the banks who help finance such energy projects. The actress even tossed her support to a protest by farmers in India last year.

In other words, if you gather a bunch of liberals and celebrities together to protest almost anything that isn’t approved by progressives, Sarandon will show up sooner or later. She’s like a moth being drawn to the flames of liberal outrage. It’s a wonder that she has any time left in her busy schedule to make movies. Of course, she hasn’t starred in a movie that I’ve even heard of in 20 years, so perhaps she has plenty of time on her hands for these other activities.
