Imagine you’re a parent paying nearly $50K per year (per child) to send your children to an elite college-prep high school. What is your response when you find out that the curriculum has been expanded to include a lecture offering literacy in the subject of pornography? That’s what happened to a number of families at the elite Columbia Grammar & Preparatory School in Manhattan this month. When the students were scheduled to attend a health and sexuality workshop, most didn’t think much of it. Health class always covers topics including reproduction, birth control and all the rest. But when the kids showed up, they learned it was a “pornography literacy” course with the subtitle “An intersectional focus on mainstream porn.” Needless to say, things went downhill from there. Parents at the posh Columbia Grammar & Preparatory School are outraged they were never told of a fourth “R” being added to the curriculum: raunch…

When juniors at the $47,000-a-year Manhattan school showed up for a health and sexuality workshop, most thought it was “just going to be about condoms or birth control,” a student told The Post.

Instead, it was something called “Pornography Literacy: An intersectional focus on mainstream porn,” taught by Justine Ang Fonte, who’s the director of Health & Wellness at another elite prep

The worst part of this is that the parents received no warning in advance and there was no opportunity to opt-out of the workshop. The lecturer, Justine Ang Fonte, prides herself on “disrupting health education.” Mission accomplished, Ms. Fonte.

I know what some of you are thinking. These are children under the age of 18 in almost all cases. How bad could the material really be without breaking the law? Well… pretty bad, actually.

The kids were treated to discussions of “statistics on the orgasm gap” between heterosexual women and everyone else. They were shown photos of partially nude women, some in bondage. This was done to help them recognize the difference between pornography and art. While there was allegedly no full nudity or footage of penetrative sex, there was plenty more.

One topic was a review of the most commonly searched pornography terms of 2019. (Who compiles this list and how?) The winners included “creampie,” “anal,” “gangbang,” and “stepmom.” One female student spoke to the Post with the permission of her mother and indicated that she did not find it an educational or enlightening experience.

“We were all so shocked and mortified,” the girl told The Post. “We were all like, ‘Why are they doing this? Why do they think it’s OK?’

“We were supposed to answer questions about the porn stuff in the Zoom chat but we were all side-chatting in group chats and tons of kids thought it was so dumb that they sent the link to their friends all over the city and they were all logging on with the password.”

I’m not saying there’s absolutely no value to at least some of the topics that were included. Sexuality is complex and parents of children well past puberty (as these were) have probably already had to start dealing with related subjects. But it’s also a complex process, and parents should decide where, when, and how these subjects are broached. Also, if you want to prepare your children for meaningful, respectful adult relationships before they leave the nest, I would suggest that “stepmom gangbang” isn’t going to be your go-to starting point.

Let this be yet another lesson to you. If you’re not paying close attention to what’s going on in our schools today and you have children attending, you need to correct that. And even for all the rest who aren’t currently raising aspiring students, keep in mind that far too many schools have turned into indoctrination camps rather than literacy and educational experiences. I suppose it’s possible that we’ve reached the bottom of the barrel with classes on pornography, but I somehow doubt it.
