Cruz: Reinstate Trump's border policies

Ted Cruz has continued conducting tours of border crossings and detention centers along the Texas border with Mexico this week and inviting the press to come along for the ride. The conditions he has been discovering are not promising. The number of illegal migrants, particularly children and families, streaming into the country continues to climb. The projections he’s been hearing from the Border Patrol speak to a situation that is deteriorating, not improving. Now he has sent out a message to Joe Biden. In short, he correctly identifies the changes in immigration control policy implemented by the new president as the cause for this crisis and he’s asking Biden to reinstate the policies that were in place when he took office. Why? Because they were working. (CBS Dallas)

Senator Ted Cruz said Monday, March 29, President Joe Biden should reinstate former President Donald Trump’s border policies.

Senator Cruz made his comments to reporters after he toured the Kay Bailey Hutchison Convention Center in Dallas…

Last Thursday, President Biden denied responsibility for creating the surge and instead blamed former President Trump for dismantling the asylum policies a d system that were in place…

“I think President Biden’s comments last week blaming Donald Trump for this immigration crisis are ludicrous. They’re transparently ludicrous. Last year we had the lowest rate of illegal immigration in 45 years. The policies were working.”

The numbers that Cruz is getting from CBP are alarming, to say the least. They estimate that at the end of this month they will have more than 16,000 unaccompanied minors in custody. That would be a record not seen before. CBP also told Cruz that they anticipate the number of minors illegally crossing the border could reach 26,000 per month by September. We’re overwhelmed at the moment with 16,000 total. What are we supposed to do with 26,000 every thirty days?

The COVID situation could also spiral out of control quickly. Cruz reports that approximately 10% of the unaccompanied minors have tested positive so far. Given how tightly they are packed in together at the facility in Donna, Texas, that number could skyrocket. Thankfully, the majority of children only experience minor symptoms from the disease, but they can still act as carriers.

On top of that, it’s not as if all of the older children are cooperating. Cruz reports that five teenage boys escaped from the Kay Bailey Hutchison Convention Center last weekend. Climbing outside, they scaled down a 70-foot wall and fled. They were later picked up at a nearby convenience store, but we apparently don’t know exactly how many of these kids we have and if they are all accounted for. Keep in mind also that we’ve seen too many examples of 14 to 17-year-old males who are classified as “children,” but upon arriving in the United States they end up hooking up with MS-13 and other gangs.

We can hardly expect Joe Biden to agree with Cruz’s request and turn the clock back to Donald Trump’s successful immigration policies. After all, Uncle Joe has built his entire political brand around his promises to reverse everything that the Bad Orange Man did over the past four years. To admit now that Trump got it right and he created this crisis with his rush to reverse his predecessor’s policies would be poison in Biden’s eyes. But he still has no plan to deal with this explosion of minors and families coming into the country.

This insulting part of all this is that Biden can still sit there with a straight face and try to blame Donald Trump for this disaster. People stayed in Mexico to await their court dates under Trump and the Mexican government helped us ensure they did. The number of kids showing up with “Biden Let Us In” t-shirts tells you all you really need to know about the current situation.
