Perdue: I'll fly AOC to Georgia to campaign for my opponent

Are we sure this was a serious offer and not just a bit of bluster to spice things up on the campaign trail? The entire focus of the American political world is on the Georgia Senate runoff elections for obvious reasons. If the Democrats manage to take both of those seats they will control all aspects of the federal government and will be able to run hog-wild as they did after the 2008 elections. “Squad” member Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez plans on campaigning for the Democrats in those races and now one of the Republicans in the mix, David Perdue, is offering to pay for her plane ticket to come down and jump into the fray. The funny thing is, it would probably be a pretty good investment, even if he offered to fly her first class. (Daily Caller)

Republican Georgia Sen. David Perdue reportedly said he wants to buy Democratic Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez a ticket to campaign for his Democratic opponent Jon Ossoff.

During a campaign stop Monday afternoon, Perdue reportedly said the New York Democrat was going to be down in Georgia, saying he wants her to come down to the state and that he will buy her ticket, according to NBC News Senior Digital Politics Reporter Alex Seitz-Wald.

“She’s going go be down here. I’m going to buy her a ticket! I want her to come down to Georgia. We’ll have that debate,” Perdue reportedly said about Ocasio-Cortez.

I somehow doubt that AOC will take Perdue up on his generous offer, but it would be nice to see her show up in the state and start “helping” Jon Ossoff. Why? Georgia may be turning a bright shade of purple during this cycle, but it’s still Georgia. Democrats admittedly stand a chance at victory there these days, but not if they start talking like they’re preaching to the progressive choir in San Francisco or Manhattan.

One of the best things that could happen to David Perdue would be to have AOC show up in Atlanta and start boasting to Georgia voters about how Ossoff will promote defunding the police, abolishing ICE, pushing the Green New Deal, and taking their guns. Any of the more moderate voters who may still be on the fence will run screaming for the hills when they get hit with that dose of reality. Thinking of it in those terms, we should probably all pitch in and fly the entire Squad down there to campaign for Ossoff and Warnock.

On a related note, we recently learned that Senator Kelly Loeffler was knocked off the campaign trail after she tested “inconclusive” for the novel coronavirus. That was some seriously unfortunate timing. But now, the Associated Press is reporting that she’s had a new negative test. She’ll remain in isolation a bit longer to be on the safe side, but it looks like she may be back in action sooner rather than later.

U.S. Sen. Kelly Loeffler’s latest coronavirus test came back negative, but her campaign said Sunday she will continue to quarantine at least until she gets another negative result.

The Georgia Republican is facing a Jan. 5 runoff in the state’s twin U.S. Senate races. Loeffler took a rapid COVID-19 test Friday evening that came back positive, a day after she campaigned with Vice President Mike Pence and U.S. Sen. David Perdue, who also faces a Jan. 5 runoff.

There are still more than forty days until the runoff elections take place, so both Loeffler and Perdue have plenty of time to work the crowds around the state. While those races will undoubtedly be closely contested, even the Washington Post has been warning the Democrats not to bet the entire farm on Ossoff and Warnock. Anyone assuming that Trump’s supporters won’t show up to vote in sufficient numbers should recall most of the Democrats are already convinced that the presidential race is over and the pressure is off with Joe Biden on his way to the White House. A lower turnout race in Georgia should, at least in theory, favor the Republicans more than their opponents.
