BLM leaders pressuring Biden, Harris to adopt "prison abolition" roadmap

This is something that Karen touched on this week, but I wanted to circle back around to it today. If you thought the calls coming from the social justice warriors to abolish ICE and abolish the police were pretty alarming, fasten your seatbelts because 2021 could be bringing us something even worse. Some Black Lives Matter leaders have already begun lobbying for a meeting with Joe Biden and Kamala Harris in an effort to get a new agenda item on their plate. They’re pushing a new proposal that was endorsed by “The Squad” (who else?) that would include “a “roadmap for prison abolition.” Known as the BREATHE Act, this sweeping legislation shovels some of the most radical, left-wing wish list items all into one massive package of societal suicide. But the big-ticket item, as I already mentioned, is a “rethinking” of our criminal justice system leading to no longer having any prisons. (Fox News)

Black Lives Matter activists are pressuring Democrats to embrace the BREATHE Act, which includes a section requiring a “roadmap for prison abolition.”

“The BREATHE Act is a legislative love letter to Black people,” BLM co-founder Patrisse Cullors wrote in an op-ed for Teen Vogue on Thursday.

Democratic Reps. Rashida Tlaib of Michigan and Ayanna Pressley of Massachusetts announced the act in July, but it has not been brought before Congress.

One of the more prominent voices pushing for this bit of insanity is Patrisse Cullors, a name that pops up frequently in discussions involving BLM. As she told the Hollywood Reporter, this plan “provides for full decarceration of federal detention facilities within 10 years and enacts a moratorium on all new federal prison, jail, immigrant and youth detention construction.”

As you see, I wasn’t being hyperbolic in describing these demands. We’re talking about the complete elimination of incarceration for criminals of all kinds. The prisons and jails would be emptied and there would be a ban on the construction of new detention facilities.

There’s plenty more in the BREATHE Act, of course. It has provisions for reparations, the legalization of all drug offenses, the end of all cooperation with immigration officials, voting rights for illegal aliens, and universal basic income. In short, it’s a smorgasbord of most of the worst ideas liberals have ever dreamed up, leading to the extinction of law and order and the destabilization of our society.

Can you imagine a world where there are no repercussions for committing a crime? Knowing that you won’t have to go to jail, you could simply head on out and rob, rape or murder, secure in the knowledge that the worst that would happen to you would be sitting through some sort of “guidance” program explaining why you shouldn’t behave badly. We would probably be deep into Mad Max territory within weeks of such a bill being enacted into law.

There was a time when I would have brushed this off as some sort of typical extremist fantasy that would never see the light of day. Hopefully, that’s still true, but can we be sure? After all, the members of “The Squad” aren’t viewed as nutjobs inside the Democratic Party. They’re increasingly being seen as the mainstream of the progressive movement. And the Democrats appear poised to retake the White House and retain control of at least one chamber of Congress. Something that would have been widely decried as insanity only a few years ago may actually begin looming as a possibility in the Biden era.
