Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez is keeping busy as she awaits her virtually unopposed coronation, giving her control of New York’s 14th congressional district seat. She’s apparently not only positive that she’ll be a member of Congress (which is a reasonable assumption by any measure) but that she’ll be part of the majority. (Also not entirely unreasonable, but a bit hazier.) And when she gets there she expects to have a hand in selecting the endless list of things the Democrats will want to launch investigations into as soon as they pry the Speaker’s gavel out of GOP hands.

So what does Ms. Ocasio-Cortez feel merits the expenditure of the House’s time and energy? Oh, she’s got a list. (The Hill)

House candidate Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.) listed a number of investigations she thinks the Democrats should tackle if they win back the House.

Ocasio-Cortez tweeted out the list Monday, which included the federal government’s response to Puerto Rico in the aftermath of Hurricane Maria, changes to the Environmental Protection Agency staff, the lack of election security and “corruption, corruption, corruption.”

She tweeted out the list after Axios on Sunday published a spreadsheet listing investigations Democrats are considering launching if they take back the House, including to look into President Trump’s tax returns, his family businesses, and his dealings with Russia.

Ocasio-Cortez’s list appeared intended to supplement Axios’ list, given it came in a tweet referencing the media report.

Here’s the tweet where she provides her priorities for investigations.

So we’ve got the federal response to the hurricane in Puerto Rico. Note that it’s the federal response, not the local response where tons of food was left rotting in parking lots and other mismanagement. The whole affair deserves a fresh look, but it’s clear where these “investigators” plan to place the blame. Of course, ICE needs to be investigated. How else will she manage to #ABOLISH it? The rest of it is basically just a litany of complaints about the President.

But at the end, she includes the generic, “Corruption, Corruption, Corruption.” So would that be all corruption, or just items involving people with an R after their names? Because we’ve got plenty of both if you’d care to discuss it. (Take a stroll over the bridge into New Jersey and have a chat with the senator who’s up for reelection there, madam.) I think I can guess.

The fact is that unless the DNC has been totally cowed by the furthest left fringe of the base, Ocasio-Cortez will be arriving as a freshman member and not have any high-ranking committee positions. She’s unlikely to be the one setting the agenda for some time to come. More disturbing is some of the proposed investigations on the list that Axios published because that’s being endorsed by actual party leaders. Check out some of the top items.

• President Trump’s tax returns
• Trump family businesses — and whether they comply with the Constitution’s emoluments clause, including the Chinese trademark grant to the Trump Organization
• Trump’s dealings with Russia, including the president’s preparation for his meeting with Vladimir Putin
• The payment to Stephanie Clifford — a.k.a. Stormy Daniels
• James Comey’s firing
• Trump’s firing of U.S. attorneys
• Trump’s proposed transgender ban for the military

That’s quite the menu and it’s almost entirely personal grudges against the President or things which are already being handled by the Special Counsel. Don’t you need probable cause and a specific reason to look at someone’s tax returns, or is the House majority now allowed to just launch into general fishing expeditions?

Oh, and further down on the list they also included “White House staff’s personal email use.” Really? You want to go there?

Take a good look at what you’ll be in for over the next two years if the Democrats take back the House. Forget passing any additional, significant legislation or doing any real work. It’s going to be a circus, producing nothing of substance in the end since they won’t have the backing of the Senate to do anything with it. But think of all the blog fodder!
