Daily Caller News Foundation reporter Peter Hasson has been in something of a running sparring match with Illinois Congressman Danny Davis. Rather than picking apart the gun control debate or the Me Too moment, Davis can’t seem to stop talking about Nation of Islam leader Louis Farrakhan. I suppose this wouldn’t be as much of a problem if Davis could simply manage to keep his story straight.

Davis had previously spoken to the Daily Caller and mentioned that Farrakhan is an “outstanding human being” and someone he speaks to regularly. The Anti-Defamation League took issue with this, no doubt being aware of Farrakhan’s previous, repeated statements about how Hitler was a swell fellow, the Jews are all satanic and they need to die. (Actual quotes.) But when pressed on the matter, Davis claimed that he’d been “misquoted.”

Now Hasson has gotten a second interview with Davis and the congressman has done yet another 180-degree turn. Speaking on the record to the Daily Caller, he’s doubled down his admiration for Farrakhan and even raised some questions about his own feelings when it comes to the Jews. (Emphasis added)

“I’m a pretty global individual. So I know Farrakhan, I know the Middle East question, I know the Jews and Farrakhan — I know all that, but that’s not what I spend all my time focused on,” Davis continued, breaking into a laugh. “I know Farrakhan, been knowing him for years and years and years and years and years, and every once in a while some writer or somebody will I guess try to think of something to say about Farrakhan, but nah, my world is so much bigger than any of that. I don’t have time for that. I deal with it, you know, when it comes but nah, that’s not a real part of my focus.”

“That’s just one segment of what goes on in our world. The world is so much bigger than Farrakhan and the Jewish question and his position on that and so forth. For those heavy into it, that’s their thing, but it ain’t my thing,” he said

Davis went on to brag that he knows Farrakhan even better than Keith Ellison, so I guess that means… something?

Considering all the hate and calls to violence which regularly come from Louis Farrakhan, it’s disturbing that any elected official would go around bragging about how close they are to him and what a fine person he is. But Davis should give us even further pause when he brushes off all the antisemitism by referring to it as, “the Jewish question.” First of all, I wasn’t aware that there was any sort of question on the table about Jewish people in general, particularly here in the United States.

But even more to the point, the phrasing is awkward at best. As I mentioned to Hasson on Twitter yesterday, when you say “the Jewish question” that way, you make it sound as if it’s some sort of problem or puzzle. And if you’re pondering a problem or a puzzle, you’re in search of a… solution? Without going any further I’m sure you can see that the subjects of this “question” probably aren’t wild about hearing talk of a “solution” from someone who is pals with a person who publicly admires Hitler.

Louis Farrakhan is an active agent of racial and religious divisiveness as well as a regular promoter of violence. How the Democrats can continually fail to simply condemn him and rid their party of his shadow remains a mystery.
