What most of you seem to be crying out for in this political season of change is more honesty and transparency in government. We’re all tired of being lied to and disappointed by politicians who will obviously do or say anything to get elected and then turn around act like… well, politicians. If you happen to live in New York, though, there may be some good news on the horizon. Normally when you ask an elected official about any sort of corruption or other wrong doing, they will deny it until they are physically dragged off in an orange jumpsuit and there’s no longer any way to hide what’s been going on. Not so with New York’s governor, Andrew Cuomo. When asked this week about the investigations swirling around his office and that of New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio, he offered a refreshing bit of honesty.

The size and scope of New York’s state government makes it “unrealistic” to expect bad actors won’t participate in wrongdoing, Gov. Andrew Cuomo said Tuesday.

Cuomo, speaking to reporters in New York City, faced another round of questions surrounding the ongoing investigation by U.S. Attorney Preet Bharara’s office, which is examining the Cuomo administration’s major economic-development initiatives, including the Buffalo Billion program…

“I’m realistic enough to know in an operation this size with this much money and this many players, it’s unrealistic to say nothing bad is ever going to happen,” Cuomo told reporters. “Some people have bad intentions. Some people, frankly, are stupid. And things will happen.”

He continued: “The real question is what do you do when you find the bad actor? How do you respond? Do you punish him, and do you put the systems in place to make sure it doesn’t happen again?”

“And things will happen.”

Man, that would make a great bumper sticker if either of these guys are running in a future election. Hey, guys… things happen. And when you’re making an omelet you’re going to have to break a few eggs.

Watching the events unfolding in both the state capital and City Hall in the Big Apple these days has passed the point of looking like a soap opera and become more of a bad British situation comedy. Both the state level law enforcement folks and the FBI are tracking in and out of their offices nearly as quickly as contractors and political muscle men with bags full of cash have been for the past several years. If there’s one big science experiment that we could use some help with, it would be figuring out a way to clone U.S. Attorney Preet Bharara because there seems to be more corruption going on than one man can possibly investigate.

Would a new round of elections at both the city and state level change anything? That would require either the voters waking up to what the Democrats have been up to for generations or for the party leaders to see the error of their ways and replace all of the top soldiers with new blood that’s honestly committed to reform. And that’s almost a sure thing, right?

No? Oh, well… things will happen I guess.
