Obama to ICE: There "will be consequences" for doing your job

The President continued his amnesty tour this week with a stop in Florida. His remarks, both to the crowd during his speech and during an interview with MSNBC’s Jose Diaz-Balart, were rife with the usual “blame the GOP” rhetoric and defenses of the amnesty actions he himself declared beyond his constitutional authority. But he was asked by audience members and his media interviewer as well about why some people were still being deported. His answer was revealing.

MR. DIAZ-BALART: But what are the consequences? Because how do you ensure that ICE agents or Border Patrol won’t be deporting people like this? I mean, what are the consequences

THE PRESIDENT: José, look, the bottom line is, is that if somebody is working for ICE and there is a policy and they don’t follow the policy, there are going to be consequences to it. So I can’t speak to a specific problem. What I can talk about is what’s true in the government, generally.

This was no slip of the tongue. During the live Q&A he took a similar question from a woman in the crowd and told her, there are going to be some jurisdictions, and there may be individual ICE officials or Border Patrol, who aren’t paying attention to our new directives. There are going to be consequences.

We just published a link yesterday to the recent DHS mandate which was issued, breaking down illegal aliens into three categories and basically telling officers to ignore the third – and largest – category. But the difference there was that it was buffered with the language of saying, in essence, sure… we’d like to deport them all. But since we can’t you need to use your judgement and just go after the worst of the worst.

This, however, is something new. You could pretty much justify saying that you don’t have enough agents and they should prioritize their work. But even then the memorandum acknowledged that all of them were criminals and should be arrested and deported if only we had the manpower. Obama has now ramped it up to the next level and said that if you do happen to run across any category 3 illegals and you happen to pick them up as well, there will be consequences.

If you do your job, we’re coming to get you. So don’t get any funny ideas about deporting anyone who might possibly qualify for amnesty. If I were working on the Border Patrol, I’d be feeling pretty unmotivated to get out of my truck at this point.
