When I woke up this morning, I was a bit later getting started than normal. (We were up late grinding horseradish.) As such, I missed the first half hour or so of Morning Joe. But when I opened up Twitter as I poured my coffee, I saw that Joe Scarborough had done something to blow up the social media networks and the liberals were in high dudgeon. What could it be? I caught the replay at 8 a.m. and found out the reason. Joe had decided to comment on the Ferguson – St. Louis Rams story and the general media handling of the Mike Brown story.
The full segment is available online, but fairly early on we get to the spot where he talks about how he “got to a tipping point” this weekend. This starts about 45 seconds into the clip.
We are doing such a grave disservice to police officers in this country by pushing a narrative that they’re just going around and looking to shoot and kill black people. And somebody has to tell me… somebody needs to tell me why Michael Brown has been chosen as the face of black oppression.
Joe goes on to describe how this is a “reverse of what happened with Trayvon” before getting to this next bit. (And what really makes this worth watching instead of just reading my transcript is the creeping look of horror on Mika Brzezinski’s face as she realizes that Joe is building up speed for a leap off the MSNBC cliff that he won’t be able to take back, and probably wouldn’t if he could.)
There are so many great people to embrace as heroes in the black community. Deciding that you’re going to embrace a guy that knocked over a convenience store, and then, according to grand jury testimony, acted in ways that would get my children shot on Staten Island or in Queens or in Brooklyn. That’s your hero? That’s the reason that you want to burn down black businesses that small business owners in Ferguson have worked their entire lives for? That’s why you want to block African American commuters with five children going to work in the Bay area and get them fired? Really? This is your mission in life?
Donny, I’m sorry. This Rams thing was the final straw for me. We have sat her quietly and listened to BS being spewed all over this network and all over other networks. I can’t take it anymore. I will say what I said last week. And I say this not to black children across America, because as I have said repeatedly on this show, time and time again to people like Gene Robinson. There are two justice systems in America. A young black man is treated much worse than a young white man on the street, in the courtroom, in jail. There are two Americas when it comes to criminal justice, and I have said that repeatedly. But Donny, in this case, if my child or your child knocked over a convenience store and then went down the middle of the street shouting profanities at a police officer… and then went into the car and started punching the police officer and started grabbing for his gun, he’d probably be shot in the car.
I had unwisely commented to Joe on Twitter about it fairly early on, asking what he’d done to get everyone so upset yet again, and he responded by simply saying, “I told the truth.”
.@JazzShaw I told the truth.

If you want to see how extensively this blew up my timeline with liberal protests and notes of congratulations from conservative tweeters, just click on that link. Anyway, here’s the video so you can judge it for yourself. Somebody in the media realizes how badly they’ve been misrepresenting this situation.
