There’s been a flood of awful news out of Ferguson since yesterday evening, with an near certainty of more to come. So in the midst of it all, I thought we could take a brief moment out to try to shine a ray of hope on the scene. Out of all the vandalism and destruction which took place, wrecking multiple small businesses in the heart of the community, at least one of them is vowing to carry on. David Steinberg has the story.

Natalie Dubose, owner of Natalie’s Cakes and More on on 100 South Florissant Road in Ferguson, had her store looted last night, then appeared on a local Fox affiliate hours later after what must have been a torturous, sleepless night, and could not possibly have been any more lovely and demonstrative of her obviously exceptional spirit. I simply could not have made such an appearance without expressing rage; Natalie is instead primarily concerned that she may not get her Thanksgiving orders out on time to what must be a loyal group of customers.

Al Sharpton could not be reached for comment.

This is the Facebook page for Natalie’s business. I agree with David. If you know of anyone in the area who can send some business her way, that would be a big help. She’s effectively lost everything and it is highly unlikely that her insurance is going to cover all the losses from a riot, so she will probably need all the holiday work she can land to get back on her feet.
