Michael Bennet didn't mean that as a brag, either. Joe Biden appeared to have finally tamped down a Democrat mutiny yesterday after making it clear he wouldn't withdraw from the presidential race. Nor could Democrats come up with any rational process by which to replace him ... or even a candidate who could save them from the trainwreck that would result.

Democrats are essentially stuck with Biden if he won't do the honorable thing -- not that Joe has done much that could be called honorable in his career. Having caught a big whiff of the FO that followed the party's FA in preventing any meaningful primary challenge, the Colorado Democrat told CNN that Biden would likely lead them into the biggest political box canyon in 40 years:

COLLINS: You heard from Senator Schumer there. There was this long, lengthy lunch that Senate Democrats had today. And after, my colleague, Dana Bash, reported that you, Senator Jon Tester, and Senator Sherrod Brown, all said during that lunch that you don't think President Biden can win in 2024. Is that true?

BENNET: Well, it's true that I said that. And I did say that behind closed doors. And you guys and others asked whether I had said it. And that is what I said. So, I figured I should come here and say it publicly.

COLLINS: Why do you think he can't win in November?

BENNET: I just think the -- this race is on a trajectory that is very worrisome, if you care about the future of this country. Joe Biden was nine points up at this time -- the last time he was running. Hillary Clinton was five points up. This is the first time in more than 20 years that a Republican president has been up in this part of the campaign. Donald Trump is on track, I think, to win this election, and maybe win it by a landslide, and take with him the Senate and the House.

And so, for me, this isn't a question about polling. It's not a question about politics. It's a moral question about the future of our country. And I think it's critically important, for us, to come to grips with what we face, if together, we put this country on the path of electing Donald Trump again.

Most of the rest of this is typical Democrat hysteria over the prospect of a second Trump term, completely disconnected from the realities of the first Trump term. Get ready for a lot more of this, by the way; with an aphasiac nominee at the top of the Democrat ticket, they have little choice but to invert FDR's famous slogan and hope it works down-ballot. All they have to sell is fear itself at this point if Biden won't leave.

Note well that this fear isn't even selling with Biden himself, by the way. If he really believed his own demagoguery, he'd have already stepped aside. 

Other than the hysteria, Bennet's correct about the situation, perhaps more than he knows. CNN's Harry Enten laid out the bad polling news this week, noting that Trump is the first Republican presidential nominee to lead aggregate polling in July since 2000. Democrats have decided to throw in the towel and stick with Biden, as the Washington Post reported last night, but that won't solve the Biden problem. In fact, it probably makes it worse.

First: The American public realized that Democrats and the media (but I repeat myself) have been lying to them for at least two years and maybe five years about Biden's cognitive incapacity. And not just lying, but actively gaslighting us by claiming that the clear evidence of senility Biden displays are nothing but "cheap fakes" and "ableism," or nasty attacks on Biden's supposed stutter.  Democrats have already torched their credibility, thanks to Biden's unerringly stupid strategic instincts in demanding a prime-time debate with Donald Trump.

That brings us to the second and more serious problem. If Biden won't leave, Democrats have no choice but to rally around him literally days after publicly suggesting or outright declaring that Biden is too non compos mentis for a second term. Their opponents all the way down the ballot will run ads with those clips and ask voters why Democrats running for the House and Senate are endorsing someone they know to be too ill to do the job. 

You'd better believe that Bennet's right about the unprecedented political trap that Biden set for them, and into which they keep walking. There's a reason Republicans from Trump on down have been vewwwy, vewwwy quiet (to use an Elmer Fudd voice) for the last two weeks, and that's because Democrats are too busy destroying themselves without GOP help. Eventually  Democrats will quit talking about it, but that's when you can expect Republicans to "pounce," and force them to account for their cover-up and their fraud on the American electorate.
