Welcome back to our VIP video series “The Amiable Skeptics,” featuring my friend Adam Baldwin! Adam is well-known for his long and storied Hollywood career, starting with My Bodyguard, and especially for his roles in Full Metal Jacket, Firefly, its film sequel Serenity, Chuck, and The Last Ship.
What does the history of Thanksgiving teach us? Adam reaches back to Rush’s classic essay about the hard lessons of the pilgrims and the birth of American economic power, and with it, American exceptionalism. What does that teach us today? It warns that the socialist impulse is always present and always ready to undermine true liberty and real prosperity. In truth, it’s just another form of feudalism — another American experiment that went awry in the colonial era. Plus, Adam and I give thanks for our great VIP members and a memorable get-together last week with some true friends.
