White Line House fever and Justice gone a-Wray: The Amiable Skeptics with Adam Baldwin!

The fix is in — at the White House, and in more ways that one. “Was it an eight ball? Was it a gram?” Adam Baldwin wonders about the Case of the White House cocaine that the Secret Service claims it couldn’t, er, crack. “If that were a bag of anthrax,” I ask, “do you think for a hot second that the Secret Service couldn’t have figured out who dropped it … where they’re protecting the president and his family?” But that’s just the appetizer to today’s episode, which focuses mainly on Christopher Wray’s shameful testimony on Capitol Hill last week. “He was just dissembling,” Adam says, “trying to run out the clock and giving longwinded non-answers again. It’s a cover-up,” Adam adds, and asks, “What is he covering for?”

Welcome back to our VIP video series “The Amiable Skeptics,” featuring my friend Adam Baldwin! Adam is well-known for his long and storied Hollywood career, starting with My Bodyguard, and especially for his roles in Full Metal Jacket, Firefly, its film sequel SerenityChuck, and The Last Ship.

As for the headline, yes I know that the film and song White Line Fever is about long-distance trucking, but you gotta admit — it works! Adam and I have a spirited discussion about suspects; he picks Hunter in the hall with the glass pipe, while I lean more toward a Secretary in the Cabinet with a razor blade.

When we get to Wray and the DoJ, it gets even spicier:

  • “Are we to believe,” Adam asks, “that the director of the FBI never knew about effort regarding Taibbi’s release of the Twitter files? And are we to believe that, having had this exposed months ago in the Twitter files report,” Adam continues, “Wray still can’t provide answers as to why the FBI ran a censorship effort aimed at the speech of Americans on social media? Come on, man.”
  • “These guys are acting with impunity to violate the Constitution,” I say, “and they’re basically telling Congress that Congress can’t do anything about it.”
  • Wray’s act became especially threadbare when it came to the targeting of so-called “rad trad” Catholics by the Richmond FBI office. “And then Jordan says, Well, How did that get promulgated in that office? And Christopher Ray says, Well, that’s still under investigation now. It’s been five months and four days since got exposed, right?” “I ask. “The FBI,  supposedly the premier investigative agency in the world, has been tasked with investigating the FBI. Investigating its own office in Richmond. After five months, they still can’t figure out what happened. They’re absolutely lying.”
  • Adam found Wray’s answers on Mark Houck’s arrest to be the most offensive part of the proceedings. Wray said he “would defer to the agents” on “how they would approach a potential arrestee,” but Wray never explained why they sent “a SWAT team” to arrest a preacher over a sidewalk shoving incident. “He doesn’t care,” Adam says. “He’s lying.”

But what can be done about it? Adam and I spend some time at the end discussing strategy, but we both agree on one point — this makes the election even more important than ever.

Watch it all, and be sure to join us in the comments. Also, we will be taking three weeks off after this episode as both Adam and I will go on vacation. The Amiable Skeptics will return by August 11!
