Durham drop, whistleblowers, and corruptocracy: The Week in Review

Townhall Media

What stories topped your priority lists this week? For both Duane Patterson and me, the Durham report had the most impact, but there were plenty of other stories that grabbed our attention this morning. We also talk about the DoJ’s odd disinterest in prosecuting a US Attorney for obstruction and lying to investigators, two of their favorite weapons against targets without political favor among Democrats. Also along the same lines, Democrats suddenly think whistleblowers are “treasonous,” while whistleblowers think Democrats are idiots. We bring the receipts on Linda Sanchez, and also on Dan Goldman in his attack on Julio Rosas. The 2024 GOP field is taking shape, and so are the stupid attack lines — such as the Lake Nora Investment That Never Was. All that and more follows!

Welcome to our VIP feature for Hot Air as well as a members-only show in the Hughniverse! Duane Patterson and I now are doing a Week in Review show for Friday evenings, exclusive to members in both platforms. Duane has been the Generalissimo behind the Hugh Hewitt Show for more than two decades, and we have partnered on weekly commentary since 2007.

Today’s highlights include:

  • The Durham report revealed that “senior level management at the FBI was scared s**tless because they thought Hillary Clinton was gonna win the election anyway,” Duane says. “And she was known to be a vindictive soul and she was going to come at them for daring to try to screw her over by opening up the email investigation.”
  • They were counting on Hillary winning in 2016, I respond. “They could get away with this because Hillary Clinton was going to win, and no one would think to follow up” on the Russia-collusion allegations.
  • On whistleblowers, Jim Jordan “turns it over to the ranking member, Stacey Plaskett,” Duane recalls, ” who said, ‘Look, I don’t care if these people served honorably in Iraq and Afghanistan. I don’t care if they have a clean record of public service in federal law enforcement. That’s all well and fine’,” Duane paraphrases her attack on whistleblowers, “‘but that doesn’t mean they can’t have committed treason and espionage.”
  • “To Linda Sanchez,” Duane quips, “all Marcus Allens probably look alike.” That’s about the only possible explanation for this execrable sequence in the congressional hearings this week. “They’re only protected and respected and lionized and canonized and defenders of democracy when they’re going after Republicans or Donald Trump,” Duane continues. If they’re blowing the whistle on Democrats, “they may be committing treason, they may be insurrectionists, they may be insubordinate.”
  • The Sotomayor-Kagan feud at the Supreme Court may not exactly be the Hatfields and McCoys, but I argue that it’s definitely worth watching. Duane’s more skeptical: “I’d have to see something in at least one more decision where you can say, Oh, I guess this is really a thing.” Party pooper!
  • We still have plenty of time to get into the 2024 sweepstakes. “By next week,” Duane says, “here is going to be the field: Donald Trump, Ron de Santis, Nicky Haley, Tim Scott, Mike Pence, Chris Christie, Chris Sununu, Asa Hutchinson, Larry Elder, Vivek Ramaswamy, and Doug Burgum, with Kristi Noem sitting on the sidelines deciding whether or not she is gonna get in. There is going to be, there is going to be eleven, maybe twelve.”
  • “There will be two once DeSantis is in,” I reply. “The others are just running for attention.”

We game that out, and we also debunk the idea that Disney canceled its Lake Nora project because of DeSantis. There’s plenty more, so be sure to watch it all and then join us in the comments!
