What stories topped your priority lists this week? Duane “Generalissimo” Patterson came prepared, talking about the East Palestine derailment, John Fetterman’s hospitalization, and more. My list included inflation, the Microsoft/Global Disinformation Index blacklisting, and an upcoming fight over “defund” policies in DC. But both of us had the same story in mind today — the meltdown of Don Lemon on CNN and the faceplant from Chris Licht. And that story developed while we talked, too.

Welcome to our new VIP feature for Hot Air as well as a members-only show in the Hughniverse! Duane Patterson and I now are doing a Week in Review show for Friday evenings, exclusive to members in both platforms. Duane has been the Generalissimo behind the Hugh Hewitt Show for more than two decades, and we have partnered on weekly commentary since 2007.
Lemon’s big mistake, I argue, was not contextualizing it as a conservative point of view. “He could have said that this was the way conservatives see women,” I tell Duane, because “they only see women as vessels for childbirth, so for conservatives, Nikki Haley is past her prime. Now,” I add,” if he had framed the argument that way, do you think he would have gotten a tenth of the flak he ended up getting, or even a hundredth of the flak?”
Both of us get a pretty good laugh out of that, and both of us conclude that Lemon’s not really bright enough to have figured that out. We both wonder how long CNN plans to stick with its morning lemon.
We also discuss what happens with John Fetterman, whose office insists that he will not resign. However, Duane and I point out that Chuck Schumer needs that vote, and may need it more than even a 51/49 split suggests. He needs to prevent the bill reversing the DC city council’s justice-reform bill from getting to Joe Biden, and there are too many endangered red-state incumbents in his caucus.
We have plenty more here, along with a laugh at Joe Biden’s State of the Union claims on inflation. Enjoy the show and join the conversation in the comments section below!
