Hostaging the House or hardballing for conservatives? The Amiable Skeptics featuring Adam Baldwin!

Is the drama going on in the House of Representatives a hostage crisis — or just a hardball negotiation? My friend Adam Baldwin convincingly argues for the latter, and wonders why everyone wants to avoid it. “Apparently, the establishment talking point is that ten percent of these hostage takers are holding the other ninety percent of the Republican caucus hostage,” Adam scoffs. “I don’t buy it.”

The crisis may come to an end in just a few minutes. Will Adam be proven correct? Or will this just be a personal vendetta that has nothing to do with principles?

Welcome back to my VIP video series “The Amiable Skeptics,” featuring my friend Adam Baldwin! Adam is well-known for his long and storied Hollywood career, starting with My Bodyguard, and especially for his roles in Full Metal Jacket, Firefly, its film sequel SerenityChuck, and The Last Ship.

“Come on,” Adam continues. “Whatever happened to conservatives and Republicans rallying for minority rights?”

I came into this conversation more skeptically, but Adam began to change my mind. “I can get into this and tell you six different ways that I think that this is really stupid and futile,” I respond. “But, I mean, this is just day two of a two year session of Congress, and it’s not like there’s a burning issue that needs to be resolved tomorrow. This is the type of bargaining process that you get when you’re passing legislation.”

Adam and I delve more deeply into the stakes involved, and what this fight may mean for the next two years of Republican control. We also discuss whether Donald Trump may have damaged his standing with his attempted intervention yesterday, and what that might mean for 2024.

As always, enjoy the show, and be sure to join the conversation in the comments!
